Default airbag control module: FIXED

My airbag light has been on for as long as i have owned my car, and i finally got around to taking the seat out and took a look at the control module (kind of confusing though, as i read that this is NOT a sensor, yet it is labeled "air bag sensor" right on the top)
The connector looked perfect, but i figured as long as i have it apart i might as well unbolt it from the frame. So i did, and the bottom was COVERED in corrosion.. a really thick layer. i took off the cover, and there was a giant pile of that corrosion dust stuff sitting on the circuit board. I cleaned it out as best i could, and the light is still on, but I am pretty sure i found the reason my airbag light is on.
So what years are compatible with my 95 SSE? (OBD 1.5) series 2.. My local JY lists one for $60 from a 95 lesabre, but car-part.com lists them from a 97 bonneville among others for around $500 I am also confused by the fact that it lists OBD-1 and OBD-II cars.. i thought for sure they would be different modules/wiring between the 2..

Just an FYI, but I had the exact same problem on my first 95 SSEi. My module was covered in corrosion, I replaced it with a very new looking one and it did NOT fix it.

seems to me it would either be this module, the PCM or the sensor located by the front radiator support... not much else to it is there?

more possibilties would be the actual connections at the airbags or even the entire wiring harness

My air bag light came on after the engine cradle dropped out the bottom and was repaired. Something about a broken clock spring in the steering wheel if it is turned to far after it gets separated from the rack and pinion. (Best guess from this forum)

Maybe your'* had the same thing happen before you bought it. I haven't fixed mine. probably won't.

Before throwing money into parts I would get the codes pulled. Im not sure if auto zone can pull airbag codes or not. But get the codes pulled. The Air Bag light in friends 96 Bonneville came on we had it checked and it was the clockspring. Not the hardest job in the world, the only bad part was aligning it, price was kind of hefty about $140 from gmpartsdirect. But check codes.

autozone cannot read those codes. they can't even connect to my OBD 1.5 hybrid car... i have a scantool, but you need a dealer to scan airbag systems (which would likely be more expensive than just replacing the module) or a tech 2 scanner, and i wasnt able to do that today (thanks though, haro)

There'* alot more to an airbag system than the components listed. Including another sensor besides the one up front. The second front impact sensor is buried in the dash IIRC.

The location of the module is prone to issues with water because of leaky door seals. Mine is a victim (my 95) of this as well. I had the car'* previous owner (service manager for GM) scan it before my purchase. He claimed it was the underseat module, but I have yet to find one to try at a decent price. I have not removed it to check for corrosion.

Just a little note to share, and point out that you may want to go in there for an inspection. It only takes 5 minutes to pull the seat.
