Default Dash Lights

Anyone out there ever try and replace the bulbs in the dash :?: I would like to get rid of all that amber lighting and get a pale blue or even a white might look cool. Thoughts? Input?

I think most of the lamps are clear, but they shine through red filters. I'[ve seen blue indiglo overlays for sale on ebay; you just slap them over the gauges.

Lemme be the first to warn you against those things. The idea sounds simple enough but the quality of the unit makes the whole thing a chore. The design is far from perfect or flawless.

One way to get a diferent display is to mix colors
[ ie. red face + biue light = purple display}
my old pontiac grand prix had a clear display for the systems monitor, with a orange light
I think my bonnie is the same.
I will be atempting this mod soon i'll post results and pics.

*boggle*

You're a Pontiac fan but you don't want the amber lighting?

Room spinning... must lie down for a while...

Actually I think you're going to find that the amber tint is the back coating of the dash cluster itself; the bulbs themselves are regular clear ones. If you swap in blue tinted bulbs you're going to cut the collective light output down so far I'll be surprised if you can see much of anything at all. And some of the backlit buttons and stuff are not going to come apart for a lighting color change; the best you may be able to do is a hodgepodge of purplish dash gauges with amber buttons in things like the stereo faceplate and seat controls.

You awake? I don't MIND the amber lighting, but I'd like to have blood red or the blue to match my CD deck. Pref the blue

The sysetms monitor { or car} on the dash is the only clear plastic. if you put a red/blue bulb in it it will be red/ blue. and yes its bright enough to see well.

the lights are encased in plastic. 1/2 turn and there out ---- easy. no wires.

red bulbs in the rest wont be exactly be red but it may be good enough.
red +orange= close to red. :?
