New Engine For a 95 SE
What cars have the exact motor the 1995 Bonneville has? I have looked at a few older/newer 3.8 v6 motors in other cars, but they are usually quite different. Is there any cars that come to mind that a guy should keep a lookout for.
I have called a few wreckers and whatnot, but they all seem to say yea we have a motor, then I go there to look, and it is wrong.
Suggestions please.

Ok,
Just a long shot here, since my motor questions got so many responses. BTW if anyone needs to know exactly what motors will fit into this car, let me know.
We have the motor unhooked except i believe the power steering lines, but cannot get it to break free. The Haynes manual is, well a Haynes manual, and i cant tell what else might be attached to the tranny. Is there any hidden bolts that may be hard to spot?

A 95 Bonneville naturally asiprated motor is a Series 2. Therefore it will swap with any Series 2 NA.
These were found in Bonnevilles from 95+
Park Avenues
Some Impala'*
Some Lumina'*
Some Alero'*
Grand Prix'* 97+
Some Olds LSS'*
tons of cars.
And if needed a newer 3.8L Series 3 motor is nearly the same and can also be swapped in fairly easily. The intake manifold is the only major difference.

Yea man,
I got the motor like 4 days ago. It came from a 99 buick, 126,000 kms, It was torn apart, all gaskets replaced, new plugs, tested to be in pretty much brand new condition. I had a brand new plenum, alternator, battery, and some other odds and ends from our rebuild from hell on a motor that was on deaths door. We were so hard on ourselves over why this car wouldn't work, and find out after it blows up it had a few pretty bad lower engine problems.
So I guess for an update, The engine is in, all is well, fired up stalled(I assume that'* normal) every other time we kicked it up it ran like a top..............except we were working in a small town, and our local napa store was closed........so we used a gasket silicone to make a seal for the the piece the oil filter bolts to. I'm dead serious when I say, NEVER EVER USE SILICONE ON THAT PART! So long story short, we fired a bunch of oil all into the belt, which fired oil all over the damn garage, which pissed the owner of the garage off pretty bad. It was pretty funny, but it would have been way better if it wasn't my car.

Been there, tried that before. Only difference is the one I did it on shot oil toward the driverside and we didn't see it on the floor until there was about a quart under there.
Those gaskets are also tough to find here..so I keep one on hand these days.

Im pretty sure we lost most of the entire gallon, if not all pretty damn close. I assume once we get that gasket, and replace it, it will run just fine. It would be nice to have a car again. Haven't had a full time car since Dec15th, and bonne has been trying to die ever since i got her.

Well the engine is in! It ran like crap for the 1st 15 minute test drive, so we took it back to the garage. Found out the oil pressure sending unit was like cracked on the side and tipping over. We got a new sensor, and had one dirty hell of a time getting it in (I didn't know about the passenger tire thing till in a while). We had no wrench that would cleanly fit the sensor, and waited till the next day to get a wrench. Couldn't find a wrench. Got mad, looked around here, and found out its pretty easy to get to if you pull the passenger tire and pop those clips (which both broke lol). So we got it tightened, but not before it blew oil ALLLLL over. It was a gross clean up.
my car has a little trouble with accelerate from a stop. It is not terrible, slight hesitation, but once I am moving, the car picks up quite well.
I want to change the fuel filter and tranny filter, but our work space isnt very work on the sides of the car friendly. Does anyone know exactly where a fuel filter is located on a 1995 Bonneville SE? Any tips for replacing it with out doing something stupid would be cool too. My Haynes manual is spectacularly non descriptive. I guess that'* what you get when you buy a book that covers about 10 years of cars.

It'* a special socket to fit the OP sensor. Or like you did.. just pull the tire and it'* much easier.
When in those situations I like to take a couple steps back and try to get a different visual persepective of the area.

Yea man,
That was a HUGE help to get that tire out of the way. Then we spent a good while kicking ourselves because it would have made a few other tasks easier also.
