Default A new problem with keyless entry

Greetings from a new member... let me just say that this site is Terriffic!!! (note that I spelled it with a capital "T")

Anyway, I have a question for the experts here about keyless entry. I bought a '95 SSE about 3 months ago and it didn't come with any FOBs. I read in one of Deathrat'* posts that all cars with keyless entry have the code "AU0" on the RPO... my '95 sse does.

I also read in a previous thread that all doors should unlock when you turn the key to the left in the driver'* side door. My car doesn't. The power door locks work fine when triggered from eitheir interior button. I looked in the manual to see if there is a separate fuse for the keyless entry system (granted that my car has one... I know where it should be based on prior posts but am unsure as to what it actually looks like). Couldn't find anything. I also tried the generic GM procedure for resetting the keyless entry to see if I could get a response from the system (holding down power door lock, turning ignition on, then off, etc.). No response.

I'm perplexed... anyone have an idea?

I am not sure about the fuse location, but I am somewhat sure that the resetting procedure involves the key fobs, but I could be wrong. If you figure that out, make sure to look on Ebay for key fobs, they are usually on there for pretty cheap. Good luck.

My car doesn't lock/unlock by itself automatically at all!! Maybe I'm going about it all wrong? Does anyone know how I could "test" the keyless entry system on a '95 (without paying a month'* wage to the dealership)? Perhaps the test procedure that I described earlier doesn't work on a '95. I guess part of my problem is that I don't have any fobs! Does anyone know of a way to test the system without fobs?

Part of the problem is that I don't know what the keyless entry computer/system looks like. I think that someone mentioned that it is under a kickpanel on the passenger'* side or something?

Thanks in advance!

Default Keyless Entry Test

I just got my 94 SSE about 2 weeks ago. I took it to the dealership, gave then the last * digits of my VIN number, and they told me immediately that my car did come equipt with it. They did not charge me for that, and i had a friend program the remote that i got at a yard for .50 cents. Works great now. Hope this helps some!

Mine doesn't lock and unlock automatically, either. VZ, is part of yours aftermarket? I know you have a remote starter now.

I just got off the phone with the dealership. They said that my car has keyless and that they will program it for free. I ordered two brand new fobs off of e-bay for $43 shipped! If the dealer doesn't use a scan tool (which I doubt they will do on my OBDI car with an OBDII connector), I'll see if I can figure out the procedure and post it here!

Good question... I didn't know eitheir when I started this whole mess! A fob can signify several things. One common context is "an ornament or seal attached to a key chain." I just always referred to an insignia on my key chain as a "key chain!"

In our context, it'* the keyless entry remote. Taken in the context above, I can see where the term came from, but why did they choose it? Beats me!

Hope this helps.

Okay, so the remotes came today... I paid $43 for two brand new remotes shipped! Not too bad.

I went to the dealer... they put the key in the ignition, turned it to run (the position before start?) and then used a screwdriver looking tool to program it. Apparantly they touched one of the pins on the OBDII connector and the other end went to some sort of a ground up behind the emergency brake release. The locks responded by locking and unlocking.

It went pretty quickly :( Wish that I could have figured out which pin he used. He was in a hurry to get me out of there... they told me I could come by until 1:00 today and they shut the doors as I was pulling in at 12:05!! I guess that he was in a hurry to get home for Christmas eve. If he wasn't in such a hurry and if he was cool I probably could have gotten more info. Sorry :(
