Driver front Axle question. CV Joint.
He everyone I have a problem and need a quick response. The car is presntly at my son'* auto shop on the hoist. I'm replacing the drivers cv joints complete with axle, in other words drivers side axle shaft. When I received the remanufactured one it came with a male end where it goes into the transaxle.. My problem is that the trans axle also has a male end already on it. Two male ends don't match up. The parts supplier tells us that the male end in the transaxle has to come out, but first I'm concerned about that appoach but tried it anyway. It won't come out. I've tried for about 2 hours 3 people still no luck.
I have to get this car out by 2:30 pm today or it stays for 2 week.
Any help would be appreciated

There'* my friend... (long time no see)
The end in the transmission does need to come out. We had this same thing on Bonne94ssei'* car. The CV joint actually came apart, leaving one end in the transmission.
While pulling on the piece...gently pry from behind to pop it out. There is a retaining ring on the axle, that is all that holds them in. The ring is not removed seperately for install/removal, it comes out as one piece.

Bill thanks for the quick reply, we tried for several hours to get the male end out of the tansmission with 2 adults putting there whole weight into it no luck. We used 2.. 30 inch pry bars. no luck. With the car on a hoist and it being warm inside we used quite abit of energy.

Hmmm I did notice the angle needed to be right. They can be a real pain and it'* not all about the force.. but the quick motion to get the rings to pop.
Did you happen to get any pictures?

Ok..the part left in the trans looks like a three pronged cup right? That is part of the old axle and needs to come out. Is there a shop teacher or someone with experience that can help.

The quick motion is the trick, like Boost said. Try pushing the shaft INTO the trans before you set the lever and whap it. Do this so that the snap ring is not bound against the internal groove. You need to get the shaft moving outward with force before the snap ring binds. It just takes a quick hard slap with a lever at a good angle to pop it out. A tire iron will do it. Try to lever it so that the shaft is forced out along the axis as much as possible.

Another thing to try. Spin the shaft 180 degrees, push it in and then try to pop it out quickly. Great force is not needed; but the force needs to be applied so that the shaft is "floating" on its splines, not jammed hard against one side or the other.

Thats right you need to shock it to break it loose. Trick is to try and get behind it with the end of a pipe and try and whack it with a medium ball pean hammer. If it doesn't go turn it 180 deg to another position and try again. You don't have to hit it too hard, just enough to release the snap ring.
