Default Park neutral switch/discrete transmission range failure

Ok,
I made it to the Pontiac dealer, and they scanned my car. I was blown away it worked. This car has me used to disappointment.
It popped 3 codes. One was a cruise control vent issue. One was the park neutral switch P1520.
The 3rd was a discrete transmission range failure. He meant to give me the code for the range failure, but apparently gave me the neutral switch code. So long story short, I do not have the range failure code. :(
I have looked into the Haynes manual, and cannot find what this might be attributed to. Any info as to what part/whatever causes this, where it is, and how to or if its fixable would be appreciated.nm
Thanks in advance!

No, never. Might be tempting if it was a standard, but i drive automatics like a girl, cause well, isn't that who they are made for?
In all seriousness no the car is driven nicely. I just need to know what it is I have to fix. This tranny issue is killing me. My motor runs top notch, but the tranny is um, not working properly. Making the car harder to move in OD at low RPM, or accelerate from stops.

Most of my cars have been small fun cars to drive, and almost all standards. This is the first big boring automatic I have owned.

I think the third code can just be cleared. The neutral park switch that weird if that was broken you couldn't get the car to start check all your electrical connections see if any wires are chaffed and the connections aren't corroded

Yea the car starts and runs fine, I don't believe it will start in other gears (although I haven't tried). All I know is my car is screwed, and a tranny issue seems to fit the puzzle. My car feels like its trying to ride its mountain bike in high gear from a stop. lol
He cleared the codes and said "well if that CEL comes back, call me". I said iv never had a CEL, the car just runs crappy. lol
I'm going to need to read about the tranny connections better. Iv never touched them so far (except to swap engines).

The FSM suggests ensuring the PNP switch is adjusted properly.

In this post of mine at BonnevillePro there are pictures showing how to line up the switch with it'* dot on the inner ring.
BonnevillePRO.com • View topic - PCM details for transaxle range selector mod. Successful 6/1

From there it moves to test wiring, replace PNP switch and then replace the pcm. From experience the PCM is typically not the issue.

Good lord bill,
I got a nasty cold right now, and trying to make my brain swallow that is hard work. I don't have to worry about that plug or any of that other stuff right. If you could let me know where about things start applying to me, that would be great. As I said, I have never messed with transmissions much, especially autos. Does my transmission (stock bonneville se 1995 to the best of my knowledge) have an external range switch?
I hope this is what the problem is....it was the only major code in the history.
This car loves to keep me overwhelmed! lol
Thanks a lot for the info bill

I went on to rebuild my transmission BTW.

The thing here is yes, your trans has that external switch. Look only at the pictures of the black switch and where a line on it comes in direct line up with a dot on the inner circle of the switch. If those are lined up on yours and all your wires appear to be in good shape, then I'd try a new PNP switch.

The post was to help a guy who had an internal switch car and he needed to add an external switch.

Sweet deals Bill,
Just wondering, can this be gotten from under the car, or through the hood. Please please don't tell me its a drop the transmission job. I have a transmission filter for it that needs to go in also, so if it needs anything such as draining, I should probably do that anyways. I just hope this switch is moderately easy to get at with the car intact lol.
