Default Entry Lights

My entry lights don't come on when I lift the door handle (without opening the door). I know it'* supposed to, cuz the neighbor kid and I just test drove a 93 SSE he'* looking at, and I know a 94 has it too. My lights come on with the keyless entry, though, and the little rings around my locks illuminate. Is there a switch or sensor in the two front door handles?

Anyone?

I'm waiting! :P

If you have a deceivingly minor crunch and then subsequently have to have your front end cut off and rebuilt you will find with the $13000.00 your insurance company spends you can get it fixed. I know it seems like the long route but it could mean aV8 swap if you so desired. I sure am feeling chipper this morning.

He'* chipper alright!!! But at least he is honest...he'* right, it probably wouldn't be worth the time and $$ you'd spend to figure out why. sort of like little oil leaks...if it'* just a small one there'* really no point in trying to figure out where it'* coming rom because you can spend thousands and thousands of $$ to rip the car apart and find it...and then yhou never do find it!!....ok, i'm rambling.

I believe it can be solved and if I were you I would wait until you have to take your dash off before you do it. At this point (when you are taking the whole dash off) you can do what usually solves the wiring problems in our cars and that is bad connectors and bad grounds. Before you do that make sure you have checked all fuses and other such simple things. Our cars have a loose wiring harness that were plagued from day one so don’t expect anything less when owning a Bonneville. I was thinking of having a new harness made so we could just replace it but I am guessing it would not be cheap. I will be looking into it regardless. I will connect with painless wiring to see what they will charge us.

What I'm actually trying to do here is get our esteemed Administrator to crawl out from underneath his rock, BECAUSE HE HAS THE FACTORY SERVICE MANUALS FOR 1993! This is a minor thing, that doesn't really bug me. Just something I noticed, but I'd like to eventually fix it. I have a slight air leak through the drivers door panel, so I think I'll fix that and while I'm in there, I'll poke around.

In my GM shop manual for the 92 SSE/SSEi, each front door has a "Door Handle Switch" that completes an electrical circuit when the door handle is operated. There'* two wires coming from the door handle switch... a black one which is the ground wire and a gray one that goes to the "Front Door Handle Switch Input" at the Remote Accessory Control (RAC) module.

Not the most complete description of the system, but it'* a start... The 1993 models should be identical to the 1992; they didn't start changing much electrically until 1994.

A question for ya, though.... does it not work with both front doors or just the driver door? That would llikely tell you if it'* a bad switch or a possible problem with the entire circuit.

Neither door works....so the switches are probably wired in series. It'* not the RAC, cuz the lights come on when I use keyless entry. I'll check the switches. Thanks!
