ELC Relay Location - Lack of information
I am posting this because of the lack of information otherwise.
1. Owner manual states that the maxifuse relay cover will state what relay is for what. It does not. Upon searching on the forums others have noticed this also.
2. Repair/service manual, default full-size model one, bought because there is not a defined supercharged one, does not list the relays either. You could spend some time looking through the wire diagrams but...
3. Searching the forum brought up partially correct/indirect information.
I own a 1992 SSEi - your setup maybe different depending upon your year and model. My ELC Compressor would not turn on. I was told that I could switch the horn relay with the ELC relay for easy troubleshooting. This is TRUE.
All the relays under the maxifuse relay center are interchangeable. Looking straight at the relays in front of the hood, starting from the left, the horn relay is the second. The ELC relay is the 3rd from the left.
For extra identification the ELC relay has 2 orange wires, 1 dark green wire, and a yellow/lime green wire attached to it.
I plugged the ELC relay into the horn relay plug and hit the horn to test the relay. There was no beep. I put the working horn relay in the ELC plug and my compressor thus then worked.
Thus the relay is bad and it is a much cheaper and easier fix than a $300-$400 compressor. I hope this helps the next person.

That is a good idea.
Something else to consider for us with 92'*... My ELC relay is not where my FSM tells me it should be. Mine is in the Buick position, behind the glove box, in position 3. It uses a different style then the ones in the MaxiFuse Relay center, but is still swappable with the relays it resides next to.
