Default What kind of noise will bad needle bearings make?

3 days ago my SC started making a loud grinding noise. I wanted to know will bad needle bearings do this? I replaced my coupler 10,000 miles ago and when the belt is off the nose drive turns smooth and no movement of pulley. I am confused and need some advice please thanks. I lost my job and things are rough here right now. Thanks

Should make like a clunking sound. Rev up the engine and then listen, do you hear clunking in the supercharger? If so, chances are the needle bearings are bad and the rotors are slapping around. You will be missing a lot of coating on the rotors as well.

Well Dan it is clunking bad! What are my options right now? Can I get a belt to the water pump and crank pulley to by pass the sc for now? If this can be done what size belt would I need and how would I set it up to run the water pump? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Your best option is to find a replacement supercharger. Or rebuild the one you have. ZZ performance has rebuild kits. Not sure about the belt, sorry.

Getting the needle bearings out is hard. You need to remove them with pressurized fluid. So you need to tap the hole behind the bearing and put in a grease zerk, then pump grease in until it pops out.
