Default SC Engine Swap

I had almost given up on my '95 SE, but then, a new breath of hope.

After receiving and installing the wrong trans (i guess i shouldn't trust "experienced" cars people so much), my car has been sitting over the winter.

With scrap metal prices so high, I was literally hours away from loading it on the car hauler and cashing it in. Then my dad calls me and said he knows a guy that has a SC 3800 that he wants to sell for $400. I explain to him that i need the trans, wiring harness, and PCM as well. So I ended up just buying the whole car and pulling what i need and scrapping the rest for what i paid for it.

So I now have a SC 3800, trans, harness, and PCM.

The car goes in to the junk yard on Monday, I just want to make sure there isn't anything else i need to pull before i get it gone.

Also, since it was pretty much free, I am going to rebuild them. Just wondering if there are any recommended upgrades that i should do while I'm at it.

I believe the fuel pump is different, so you should grab that as well.

Is the donor engine from a Bonneville? If it is, and it is a '92 - '95, you should grab the tail lights from it as well. They will look much better in your car then the SE tails

There really won't be any reason to rebuild the engine, but, you should check for a bad coupler or bearings in the superhcarger and it might not be a bad idea to freshen up the trans while it is out if you have the time and money.

As far as having the wrong trans installed, what was it from and why will the current one not work?

What year is the PCM and does the trans match? What year is the motor? These are very important questions.

Did you get the axles? You'll also want the radiator swapped. The L67 uses an engine oil cooler (3-core) radiator.

You'll also want a set of factory service manuals for your year and the year of the PCM and trans if different than 95.

More importantly, how long has the donor car sat for? We are finding more and more that engines that sit...don't make good donors.

Fuel pump...change it....but NO SWAPPING. Do the job one time and get a new one. You will want the suspension from the donor as well, as you will find that the added power and torque the L67 provides will make an already squishy FE1 suspension REALLY squishy.

Yes...year would be nice. There are some differences that will crop up no matter what is going in, but I hope you are going to stick with S2.

The donor is a '96

The previous trans swap didn't work because it was from a 93, and they are different apparently.

I will go ahead and get the axles as well, i didn't even think about that.
I'll also plan on changing the fuel pump.

Get a fuel pump for a 95 SSEi. It will be a direct swap in your tank, and it out-flows the Series 2 pumps.

You will need the factory service manuals for 95 and 96.

Alright, now I know where to go with this...

As Wren said, get the 95 L67 spec pump...I suggest new, or near-new. S2 L67s use a dual-stage fuel pump system, and the PCM will want to see that.

Which brings me to PCM. I have a 97 PCM that will work for you. THe 96 could work, but it is locked to the car it came from (via body control module), and the VATS will need to be disabled inside it. My PCM already has that feature, among others not needed at all for pre-96 models, disabled. See my OBD2 conversion posts for the hell one goes through to transplant a PCM into an older car.

The mechanical swaps will be easy. The electrical is going to be tricky, esp. if you have never held a soldering iron.

EDIT - gmtuners.com has all the info you need on wiring diagrams. That source was invaluable to me.

No. His fuel system will stay 95 spec...which means only a simple relay and on/off pump action. The DTC associated with the PWM code will have to be deleted though.
