Default '97 SSEI fuel pump/sender

Guys, the fuel sending unit on my car is garbage. I figure I'll have my brother put a new one in the tank while I'm overseas. Before the guage hits the 3/4 mark, I'll have driven about 200 miles.

I believe the '97 uses a specific pump, but I just can't be sure I'm picking the correct one on the internet. I don't plan on repairing anything, just replacing the entire thing; pump, sending unit, etc.

Have any of you bought the whole shebang and installed it on your '97 SSEI? If so, can you tell me what model you purchased? While I'd prefer just sticking with a Delphi, if it'* not available I'm not proud...

Thanks, Steve.

This is the pump you wantELPHI Part # FE0102
About $100 at Rock Auto. You may be able to find a better price on this pump at Amazon or Ebay.

I have not installed the "whole sebang" on a SSEi, but I have replaced a few OEM pumps to DELPHI (which is OE) on my GM vehicles and discovered excellent instructions, and pump updates. I never had a problem with a DELPHI replacement pump and have full confidence in them.

I don't think there is any difference with the installation/removal of the fuel pump between the SE'* and SSEi'*. The pump itself is different is all.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that'* the part he needs. Looks like that is just the pump and does not include the sending unit.

Roy,

Thanks for identifying my error. I am looking at the picture and see no sending unit.

Thanks,

Mike

Just for the record, my 97 is the same way. Top off the tank and I've gone 100 miles before the needle moves. The lower the tank, the faster the needle moves. I think that'* just how they are.

GM has a new calibration for the PCM to correct the long fuel gauge delay. It'* listed in my AllData TSB'*. It'* a dealer only fix done with a Tech2. Not a recall, but just an update to the PCM that corrects that.

Mike..what OSID do they suggest installing to fix that?

As for a whole SHEbanger.. the 97 has them typically listed seperately because pump and sender are seperate parts put together. I've never found them listed as one unit.

My 97 was the same. First 1/2-3/4 of a tank was all the mileage and then it nose dived to E. If there'* a new OSID or pcm calibration (same thing) then that can be programmed into a pcm fairly easily. I may even have the right OSID bin file already and not know it.

If you find this, post it, I would like to change mine as well. As it is it'* like the tank is an upside down pyramid.
