Hi...I have a 1999 Bonneville SE model with 145,000 miles on it. I'm having a problem that I really can't seem to identify. This has been something that has been going on and off since I first got the car a little under a year ago, but no matter how many mechanics this car is brought to, or how many different things are checked, no one can figure out why my car is doing this. The issue is that the car will slightly jerk, the RPM'* will drop to zero, the oil gauge will drop to zero, the check gauges light would come on, and the car will die. The car will turn over right away and drive okay until it does it again. Up until a couple of months ago or so, it would only stall when the car was at 1/4 of a tank of gas or less, and as long as the car had gas in it, it ran fine. Now it will stall, regardless how much gas is in the tank. I have had the fuel filter changed, and since the check engine light was also on, the MAP sensor, which took care of the check engine light...but not the stalling problem. I have had the Crank Sensor checked awhile back, which was fine, the fuel system'* pressure is okay according to the mechanic [although I don't know if he physically checked the fuel pump or anything like that]. He said he also checked the cables and whatnot and said those were fine too. I've narrowed it down to either some sort of a short somewhere or a fuel delivery problem that we can't figure out. If you guys have any ideas of what could be wrong with it I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Tap on the MAF when the engine is at idle. I have a feeling it will stumble.

A shut off is electrical. Bad MAF, bad crank sensor, bad cam sensor, bad ignition harness.

Did anyone ever check the fuel pressure?

I agree about the other things to check, but the curious thing is that the tach drops to zero, the oil gauge goes to zero as well, but it sounds like jkramer is saying the engine is still turning over but is slowing as it dies. That sounds electrical.

How about the ignition switch losing contact. Turning the key to restart the car would initialize new contact with the RUN contact. Then he drives and it loses contact again.

@Dan I believe the mechanic did check the fuel pressure, but I will mention it again.

@Imidazol Thanks for the additional suggestion. I have a list of things written down...I'm just handing the the paper to the guy and telling him, "Here...check every single one of these." Lol!
