Default 99 Olds 3.8 no start.......Sometimes?

Ok I have a 99 Olds with a 3.8 in it. Here is the story. Ran pretty good every once in a while it would spit and sputter while crusing to work (80 mile round trip all highway). Well the light would come on, and I would scan it at work. Codes would be Knock sensor 1 and Knock sensor 2 and CKP sensor (18x 24x or something like that) Well I would clear them out and it would go a few more days and run good no light or anything. Ok well it started to get HOT here in Texas so I fixed the A/C (leaking at the high side pressure valve). Ok running good with A/C......FOR A DAY!!!! We (the family)took it to a fish fry the next night and when we got done eating we went and try to start it and it would not start..It would crank over and you could hear the fuel pump, also if I held the pedal down it would start but as soon I moved my foot it would die. Well we towed it home, got it home and it cranked up and ran fine no engine lights. Drove it to work today to check something out on it. Scanned it and it had the same 3 codes again. I went ahead and replaced the CKP sensor, and cleared out the rest of them. Got it to drive it home and got about 15 miles or so and it just died while crusing. Spit a little then just died. Any thoughts??? Clogged cat?

Sorry for the "STORY" but I figured it might help. Thanks

well I got to it this morning, and it started up and drove just fine. That is until I turned on to street that my shop is on. It died and I let it coast on up to the shop. Scanned it and nothing. Tried to crank it, no start. After a while of sitting we hooked up a fuel pressure gauge and it was reading 45psi when the key was turned on. Tried to crank it and it started up and held between 45-50 psi fuel pressure. Killed it unhooked the gauge and tried to start it agian, no start. Like I said earlier, I can make it run by holding my foot on the gas and I can get it down to around 1000 rpm'*, but as soon as I let off the gas it dies.

What the heck is going on guys???

Try taking off the IAC & give the plunger & the area where it seats in the throttle body a good cleaning. I don't know what those KS codes are about.

PS - When was the last time the spark plugs were changed?

Not sure about the plugs. I am sure they are in need of changing. I will check out the IAC and clean it tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.

changed the plugs today and cleaned the IAC. It was pretty gunked up. After some more checking and whatnot. I decided to unplug the MAF and see what happened. Cranked right up and idled good on its own. Until the light came on and then it would stutter. So I guess I am going to pick up a MAF in a day or so and I think that should fix it.

you might not need a new MAF, you can clean those with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, or else you can buy MAF sensor cleaner kits for just a few bucks

I went ahead and got a new one anyways. It seems to have fixed my problem. Thanks for all the replies.
