Hey Everyone,

Its been a while since I have been here, but wanted to see if someone had seen this before, I didnt see anything by searching. My mechanic just wants to spend lots of money but I'd like to know the cause first.

When I go over sharp crests, or whenever the car gets light on the front end, there is a major clunk from the front end. It seems to be a broken strut, and thats fine, but there is something else that seems related.

There is the suspension setting buttons next to the transmission controls in the SSEi. Its like Sport and Touring, or Sport and normal, or something like that.

Well, both lights are always on at the same time, and selecting the buttons does not change the ride. This is not right. I am wondering if the broken strut is causing this, or if the computer is bad, thus deflating the air ride on the strut causing knocking. None of the other struts seem to clunk, just seems to be one of the front ones.

Anyone have any ideas?

well, he said that the struts were about $300 each, but he said that the reason the 2 suspension mode lights are on is that my ride computer is probably dead and that it would cost about $600. Is that true, could the computer be dead, or just the strut failure has caused the modes to malfunction.

Maybe I should get the strut replaced, then worry about the lights.

So are the CCR struts air or gas? Are they ride leveling struts? So if I replace them with a Monroe or similar, will that affect handling or throw errors, or disable any other functions?

I just checked out Monroe'* website. They have instructions and replacement struts, but they say the CCR will be disabled (they say to remove the computer). Is there another way to replace the struts without removing the computer controlled ride control?

Is there a way to get OEM struts for this model from anywhere? 97 SSEi

the CCR struts arnt worth it, just keep your ELC feature....the CCR and the ELC are @ independent systems

So if I just replace the front with Monroe shocks, I can still use the load levelling feature?

Had the same problem with my 98' Bonneville ,both performance and touring button lights were on,they can be disabled under the front seat some where,I myself raised so much hell at my local dealership that the Pontiac rep replaced all four struts and disconnected the lights for free....this back a couple of years ago.....maybe I jus'got lucky,but hey I'd paid good money for that option and to have GM say sorry we can't/won't fix the problem and you'll have to pay like the man said earlier $300 bucks per strut is just pure horse pucky.!!!!l

Thats great! My local dealership tend to be jerks, so I cant imagine them giving me free anything. I'm glad you got yours resolved though.

I think I will get the reflex struts for the front. I am tossing up between the Reflex and the Sensatrac. Anyone have any opinions? I do a lot of highway miles, but also like to throw the car around and have fun sometimes. Hey, thats why I bought the SSEi right!

Will the Reflex be too harsh on the highway?
