I have a 1995 bonneville sle and recently did an engine swap. it ran great , but smoked I guess from the previous engine blow up and oil in the exhaust. I did the UIM an LIM manifold and still was getting smoking . THe plugs looked good last week and now there it is not running right. THe check engine light is on and I get no codes??? I know this obd 2. I need HELP! THis has been one head ache after another. Any help will be grealty appreciated. I will pull the plugs again after it cools down. HELP!!!!

Actually, it is not OBD II. The protocol is OBD I, with OBD II codes and connector. How did you check for codes? An OBD II code reader likely will give an error saying that it can't connect, and an OBD I won't fit the connector.

I used my obd2 reader, but it did not work right. Do I have to jump the terminals to get the codes? Thanks

No, you can't jump the terminals after 1993. You need a reader or scantool capable of 94/95 codes with a 16 pin cable. Hard to find. Post your location. We may have one near you.

Sorry - no. 1993 was the last year that you could jumper the connections and count the flashes. '94 & '95 are often referred to as OBD 1.5 because of the combination that was used. Unfortunately, you need a special code reader, and generally neither Advance or Autozone have those. IIRC the Actron 9110 is one that is used. It'* a long shot, but where are you located? Perhaps a nearby member has one.

In the meantime, how old are the plugs, and the wires.

i recently had a similar problem.. i went to autozone and advanced auto and firestone and even pepboys and none of their code scanners even worked..

there is only one model code scanner to work on our 95'* you need a actron cp9110 with the actron cp9114 wire.. where are you located.. maybe i can help.. ill do a free scan if your close..

I am in Reading PA. THe car is in my garage and is not inspected or tagged. I hope this is my lucky day... If not I have a bunch of spare sensors from the engine swap. that is a lot of guess work though...Thanks

I pulled all the plugs and they look fine. I guess all the smoke is sensors and oil in exhaust. I will poke and hope with changing out sensors that I have on hand if I can not get this scan tool. THanks

Incorrect information above. You don't need the 9114 cable. You need the 9115 cable.

Buy an Actron CP9110 scantool (it'* NOT a code reader as stated above, it'* a full-blown scantool capable of real-time data acquisition and recording), and the GM cartridge. If you're lucky enough to find it with the 16-pin cable needed for the 94/95 (CP9115), great. If not, then go here:

i live in allentown pa and i could possibly go there next week if i get the cable i ordered from slug .. slug made me a cp9115 wire that is needed to go with the scantool to check our 95'* if you can wait untill next weekend then i can go over to reading with my friend that lives out there and help you out if you pay for my gas..thats all just my gas as its expensive and your about an hour away.. please let me no if you want to do this or not.. thanks...
