Hi everyone. I just had my car fixed (crank sensor, camshaft sensor, o2 sensor, replaced radiator) last week and my mechanic says that the EGR flex pipe needs to be replaced because it'* sucking in air, causing the engine light to come on and the idle to be a little rough after it warms up.

Now my oil gauge is also hitting the red warning mark on idle, after it warms up, earlier today. I immediately put two quarts of oil in before work and after work, it done it again and I took it to get an oil change. I pulled up at my house and it'* still hitting the red mark!

My question is, does this have to do with my faulty EGR valve? The gauge does acts a little rough when the idle acts rough.

Milkman, I have a couple of questions about your post. Did you really put four quarts of oil in the car? You say that it idles rough. When does the oil gauge hit the red mark? I take it your car is not supercharged so finding a EGR tube shouldn't be that hard but you will have to determine if it is the upper or lower tube. I would start with removing the upper tube carefully. They are pretty fragile on these older cars. You can test for a leak by submerging one end under water while covering the end with your finger. Blow through the other end. Check both ends for leaks. If this tube has been disturbed recently it is very possible that it is cracked but you may not see the crack at first. It will probably be at the flange at either end. It is also possible that you have a bad EGR. If you can have the car scanned it will help pinpoint what is going on.

Update!

I found out it was the oil pressure switch (located above the oil filter) and I replaced it. The 95 Bonnie is running good now!

As for the EGR valve, my mechanic said it was the flex tube that goes into the intake manifold. I thought my two problems were related and wasn't sure if it was separate issues or not.

There'* about 5.5 quarts of 10-w30 oil after the oil change and new oil pressure switch.
