You're right. No argument. As long as the '95 is supercharged. And you can confirm the interchangeability of the supercharged '95 with other years and makes at the junkyard or with junkyard search engines. But the normally aspirated '95 Bonneville with the FW2 gear option only shows that another '95 normally aspirated Bonneville FW2 will work. We don't know why this is so. That'* why we are interested to learn.

I just checked car-part.com again for the F17 gear option for '95 Bonneville and other "95 GM makes come back. It'* only the FW2 that is both year and make specific.

It would be interesting to see if the ID tags on your 94 and 95 transaxles differ (other than the year) That will give us another piece to the puzzle.

So Aequitas, check your RPO code in the trunk to see what gear option your trans is: F17 or FW2. Then go to car-part.com to see what your interchangeability options are. Until we know different, the ID tag advice still holds though, to minimize potential problems.

I am looking to replace my tranny in my 95 Bonneville SE. I was told that I have the FW2 transmission by GM using my VIN#. I was wondering if any one knows whether or not the F17 (2.84 ratio) can be used to replace the FW2 (3.06). I know that the transmission has to be from a 1995 ect. have read that on this thread and several others. But have been told the F17 should work but would have different shift spots and Speedo would be off. I was expecting that, but want to confirm that it will work before I buy a replacement tranny.

You need the PCM as well from a donor car of the same year (in your case only a 95) with the same axle ratio you WANT.
