Will Crank sensor Always post a trouble code?
Hello My fellow gearheads,
Will a crank sensor that is possibly going bad always post a truoble code? I have a random stall out on my 1992 boneville engine code L, but no codes are tripped. Have checked fuel pressure, coil, regulator, maf sensor tps sensor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, pvc valve, fuel filter, ignition module is 3 mos old, and checked for tightness at battery cables, alternator, and went over and under for vaccum leaks. Is there a way to check the crank sensor manually like with a voltmeter or Dvm? Please advise need help here mu bonnie has been a good old girl and still is running fine at 186000 miles.

I'm not 100% on the 92 you have. On a 97, I can tell you as a fact that they don't always post a code.
I would probably recommend changing it, the only other thing from the looks of what you have tried would be a pcm.

I was afraid of that..as an after thought it will fire up fine after she cools down for 30min and then run good for about 15-20 minutes and start stalling out suddenly ..hard to restart unless she cools down again. I feel a crank sensor change is in my future...oh man its always something! Any particular brand you can recommend Billboost37/ and thank you so much for the quick reply.

hey i have tried countless things on my 92 bonny SE.. 210k miles now ... the motor runs strong, i always get a code 41... and it rarely stalls, but yes after 20mins when its... HOT.. it will hesitate and get gradually worse until it will not drive anymore.. is this happening to yours? or is my problem something different, ive done the tuneup check sensors... 41 never seems to go away. started as a every other day problem, now it happens exactly after 15 - 20 min of driving, about 10miles in city.

Yes, we have some similarities there but i post no codes and by the way anyone know what a code "41" falls under? This just started out of the blue and know its grounded my Bonnie till further notice or till i pull that crank sensor like BillBoost37 advised! But basically you and i are in the same situation..it will start up good then warm up some and start to run rough with erratic idle and then cut out/stall out with the quickness. No stublin no bucking, no warning just boom stall out and then its hard to start unless she cools down for a while!! I say Ckp sensor its cheap and worth a shot. Your thoughts?

San antonio! Its a small world my brother!! Go with the fuel filter first and try some lucas fuel cleaner as well..it never hurts to try!! Then see what happens!! yes please keep me posted i will be switching out my crank sensor friday and I will keep you posted as well!! be safe

I have a 92 SSEi, owned it since 95. I can tell you for a fact that YES you may have a bad crank sensor. I had the same problem about 8 years ago. Dealer coundn't find any codes or other problems.
I insisted that the problem would arise after the car got good'n'hot after about 30-45 mins of driving.
So they let my car sit and idle (it was middle of summer so I suppose that helped) finally the car just quit. That is when they could finally declare that the crank sensor was opening internally.
Replaced the sensor, and all was well again. Maybe not your case, but just a possibility.

You just gave a word for word right spot on description of what exactly is going on with my Bonnie.!! It is so darn frustrating! Why no codes? why? Well i am off today and I will be starting to replace the crank sensor today...as a matter of fact I am getting the stands and jacks ready now. Real quick -any preferences brand wise on that sensor? Thank you, for the great post you have no idea of the headache i've had messing with this issue!! be safe and best of luck!!
