Default 95 SSEi new car....and new to the board.

Hi I'm from Lakeville, MN and I just stumbled acrossed this board. I'd like to get in touch with some of you guys on here from around the Twin Cities, and help with your knowledge of Bonnevilles. Here'* my situation. I got the car for FREE...Fully Loaded any option they had, 194,000 miles on it just needed a transmission and the engine still had plenty of potential. Put a new trans in it and now I'm in dire need of some engine work. Ran great for a while, swapped out the coils couples nights ago and ran great, until last night when I was trying to get on the freeway behind my g/f'* lil prizm....And SHE SMOKED ME! Down hill on the ramp with my foot to the radiator and the car would get to about 3 grand and lose all power. I thought it stalled at first, but it was still running. Stopped at the gas station, put a full tank 93 in with some cleaner in it and no change. Dunno, too me seems like a fuel pressure regulator, and or a fuel pump goin out maybe, almost the same symptoms. Also very hard starting when warm, which feels like a pressure regulator also. So now anything over half throttle and it'* like the car has no more to give going up a hill or for acceleration. It also bucks REAL hard sometimes when you go up a hill with just steady driving and if you punch it it stops and tears up the pavemant. The SES light does come on when the car does this. Last time I scanned it before it started doin this it came up with a fuel trim code. Don't even know where to start with a code like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also looking to mod up the car with some fun stuff and of course make some new friends to hang out with at stuff like that.....Never done anything like this and would like to. Only played with trucks.

Thanks,
Nate

Welcome to the club!! You may want to check out www.MNBonnevilleClub.com too!

As for the car... I am in your neck of the woods (Crystal, MN) and I happen to have the factory service manual for your car as well as a laptop based scan tool. If you can get your car to my house I will scan it for free.

My initial guess is maybe a cam / cranck sensor, clogged cat, or faulty ignition. Once you have the code pulled from the SES light we can use the book I have to do complete troubleshooting of it.

Welcome aboard. You have a couple neighbors right there in Lakeville who are members here. Jason Zais (BonneMeMn) has a purple 1993 Bonneville SLE with the Flowmaster dual exhaust, and Fantastic88 drives a pristine (from what I've seen of it) white/grey 1993 Olds 88.
Well, add another notch to the list of MN members.
Now go over to www.mnbonnevilleclub.com and join up there.
You can be gaurunteed to have all your questions answered either here or there.

I don't know if it'* a good idea to drive it all the way up to Crystal, but it'* worth a try just to figure it out. It ran fine all night last night until I started following the old lady home. I blamed her for it, but she doesn't think it was her fault. It had been starting to lose it'* top end pull and just shifting REALLY positive, like, throw you back into the seat when it would shift...But now that'* gone and I get on it and it'* got the acceleration of a 3 cylinder geo metro. I don't know for sure if it'* the cat, I just can't believel how it could instantly plug up like that. But I have seen it happen before on a friends pick up. Doesn't make any sense to me. I have new plugs for the car, but let'* get it scanned and go from there.

Thanks,
Nate

Let me know when you want it scanned. I am off from Saturday thru Tuesday. Any one of these 4 days may work (although Sat I do have some stuff going on in the early afternoon).. Or if you want to do it another time, that'* fine too.

Not likely. The SC will outlast almost any other part of your car if it is properly maintained. I have had symptoms in the past that resemble yours. I don't belive yours to be SC related. That SES light will point us in the right direction.

I should be home most of saturday. If you want to come over that day just PM me and let me know and I can send you directions.

Welcome fellow Lakevilleager. What part of town do you live at. I'm about a half mile from Antler'* park. If you can hear the */C whine it is probabbly still working. I had a problem with horrible acceleration last summer, especially during hot weather. I'd say it took 15 sec to get to 60mph. I found out I was running with one dead injector and two clogged ones. So, if you feel like a 3 cylinder metro it may just be you are running on 3 cylinders.
