Default Air conditioning

My a/c is not working. The clutch for the compressor is not engaging...it'* just freewheeling. Also and I think this is related, I'm only getting air though the windsheild defrost, not the vents or the floor. This all happened when I switched motors after mine blew. The motor I put in was out of an 89 Buick Riv. Any thoughts ?

Did you check the fuse? Yeah, seems obvious, but I've been bitten by a blown fuse before.

Jeff, checked the fuse...it'* fine. I know the a/c itself is fine but if I remember correctly it will only come on while it'* blowing through the vents or the floor? But seeing as I can't get anything but defrost it won't engage? When I play with the temp control the arrow showing where the air should be coming out changes but the doors to direct the airflow don't move. What controls the doors? Damn I want my AC back!

I think that the flow control system is powered by engine vacuum. Maybe you have a vacuum leak?

You can test the AC clutch by directly powering it. Using two lengths of wire (15 gauge should be sufficient), apply 12 v from the battery directly to the AC compressor clutch power connector. If the clutch is good, it should immediately engage. You should disconnect any other power lines going to the AC clutch before doing the aforementioned procedure.

Default Fixed!!!

I finally had time to check things out. The vacuum line which controls the doors had popped of so I put it back and the doors worked, but still no a/c Looked a little closer and the plug for the a/c compressor was just hanging there, pluged that in and presto...ice cold air! Thanks for helping to point me in the right direction.
