Default Air conditioning / heater core question

Hi

I have a 1996 SE Bonneville with the regular manual type of HVAC. It does not blow very cold air when in the a/c mode. It is adequetely but that is about all I can say about it.

My question is this. What controls the flow of engine coolant water to the heater core? I would immagine that it must be shut off when you want to use your a/c. In the old days, there was a vacuum actuated valve that would stop the flow of coolant. Is there an equivelant device on my 96 Bonneville?

Thanks for your help
Andy

There is no shutoff for coolant passing through the heater core that I know of. There is only an air mix door that when fully closed does not allow air to pass through the heater core.
