Series III UIM on a Series II?
(I ran a search on this and didn't find anything)
I'm sitting here bored at work and popped the cover off of a series III and was wondering if the metal UIM will fit on a series II.
Pat told me a while ago they will but you have to get some sort of throttle body adapter because the series 3 has an electronic throttle body. How feasible would this be? I'm considering doing it if it isn't more than its worth.

i could be wrong but as far as i know, none of the redesigned Dorman UIMs have failed. So if youre concerned about it you could just swap over to one of those.
can anyone back me up on this?

I don't think anyone has made an adapter plate for the TB yet... Its the shell that went to alluminum.. The runners are still plastic... But yes they are not proned to the failures that we have seen with the Delphi / Rochester units...
There are several that have used the Dorman intake and so far we have all had good luck with them..

mkaake has done a lot of work on this project. Search for posts by him.
And, in my opinion, it'* not the UIM that you have to be as concerned with. It'* the lower intake gaskets. I've changed mine twice. The first time they were severely deformed. The second time I simply pulled it apart to check how my Felpros were holding up. They were in mint condition after 50,000 miles. I still replaced them anyway since I was down that far.

This has been done a few times on clubgp.
Doing the swap, you loose the IAC system since it'* external on the L26 and the PCV system since it dosen't line up.
There is drilling and taping needed to plug the L26 IAC port.
The opening on the L26 UIM is circular which is much different from the L36.. So basically no matter what adapter you use with the L36 TB, the air will not flow as smooth as before.
The stock fuel rail will fit but if you run a HVII you'll need to cut, flare, and extend it.
Here are comparison pics:

For all the work needed, I would rather drill and tap the LIM so the coolant never sees the UIM & TB. Some of the guys further up north may want to keep the coolant flowing to thier TB to heat up the engine though..
My UIM is failed right now but my HVII blocks the coolant from the UIM so I don't really have to worry about it.
