BIG PROBLEM....
I changed the crankshaft sensor on car. I must have not lined pulley up properly upon reinstallation. Car wouldn't start. I took pulley off and it seems like the key which connects pulley to crankshaft is damaged and embedded in slot on the crankshaft pipe. I have a new key from dealer but how can I get to that key in that awkward spot?

I dont really have a digital cam avl. But fyi the orig key is straight with a big stomach It seems like the stomach is still in the crankshaft but the top may have broken. In other words there is nothing petruding from shaft but that slot being clogged keeps me from sticking a new one in. I just came from mech he advised me keys come in all diff sizes and maybe to get one with same length but no stomach. That should work. He adv me to find a place that does rebuilds bec they buy by the quanity and cut down to the needed size. :P

You will have to get the old out before you put the new in as you have noted. Can you get a center punch on one end of the "broken" key? If you can get the punch on one end, tap it with a hammer lightly and the opposite end should start to rise out ot the crankshaft. Once enough of it has shown itself, you should be able to get ahold if it with pliers or side cutters and pull it out. Then you can put the new key in. Be as sure as you can that the slot in the balancer lines up with the key and reinstall the balancer.

you need to be very careful here too. that ring behind the keyway is the oil pump. it may be easier to take it to a shop and have them remove the front cover and repair it.
also, i really hate to tell you this, if it damaged the slot in the crank, the timing will be off. and you will need to replace the crankshaft. that slot is in an exact location and if off just .001", it will make it run like crap. timing is everything.

I went to a local machine shop to try to get a strsight key but they didn't have any and said it wouldnt work anyway. They said it would prob not be strong enough but the suggestion they gave me was the same that "nvssei" gave. Try to use a center punch to force out a lil then grab w needle nose. I'll try this Sat mron bec I'm tird now. :(

My last resort is that I'm gonna have to take off the seal between pulley and crankshaft so I can get further in. That seems to be blocking a lot of progress.

please do me and most of all , youself a favor and take it to someone who has worked on one before. i dont want to see you do more damage then you already have done. it you mess the crank keyway slot up, you will be screwed and have to replace the crankshaft
