I went to change the oil in my car today (engine cold) and noticed my oil pan bolt was VERY hard to remove and very hard to tighten up. Well as I was tightening the oil pan bolt it stripped out, now I can't tighten nor loosen it back out of the oil pan. All it does is hang there in the pan. I really need to get this bolt out of my pan so I can get another self tapping oil pan bolt to repair my problem. I really don't and can't afford to remove the pan and get the bolt out that way. I know there has bound to be a technique that can be performed to remove this bolt out of this car, if anyone could assist me I'd greatly appriciate it.

How stripped is Stripped?? By that I mean is there anything left on the bolt to grap onto such as some locking pliers? Or did you snap off the bolt and part of it is in the pan?

Gently wedge a flat screwdriver between bolt and pan...GENTLY..

back bolt out while GENTLY applying pressure.

Ahhh, now I get it. He stripped the treads so the bolt is just IN there and it won't spin out. Still, I'm not a big fan of retapping the hole with the pan still bolted up to the car.

I know you don't want to hear this but you really need to pull the pan. The threads are most likely in your oil now which is Not good.
But if you want to take the risk of messing up your motor...
Try and tap a very small flat head screwdriver between the head of the bolt and the pan.(edit BillBoost37 types faster then me. lol) Then unscrew the bolt. It might make the threads catch. Then if you do get the bolt out, look at the bolt. If you only stripped the bolt, then put a washer on the bolt before you put it back it so your tightening down on fresh threads. Or just get a new bolt. But do realize what I just said is really ghetto and might do more harm then good.

I've decided to go ahead and pull the oil pan for safety purposes, and I remembered that my oil pan gasket is still under warranty with AutoZone, as I just replaced it about three weeks ago. I'm just going to take the pan off along with the oil pan gasket, exchange my gasket for a new one @ AutoZone, and repair the bolt problem, repaint the oil pan since I noticed its a bit scratched up on the bottom due to where I previously lived (on a gravel road). Thanks again for all of your advice. I tried getting it out by wedging something between the bolt and pan. I don't want to risk messing up the pan or getting threads inside my engine. Thanks though.
