The folks here will want you to put your year and model in your signature for quick ID.
But to your problem. This code happens when the PCM/ECM looses the signal from the MAF for more than 4 seconds. And the MAF definitely affects how the motor runs (stalling, stumbling, etc). AND.. it is intermittent, so the normal tests probably won't tell us much.
Wiring, connectors and routing are the main culprits listed for this code.
- 1. Connector problem on the PCM/ECM. The signal goes in on D14 of the 32 pin connector, closest to the firewall.
2. MAF harness routed too close to plug wire(*), causing interference to the signal
3. Damaged to MAF harness that may allow shorted or open connection.
4. Don't laugh.. this could be more possible than you think. Restricted air flow, including plugged air filter!
Since yours is happening on the road, perhaps with high air demand, please be sure to check all parts of you air path for any restrictions. Believe it or don't, because your problem is intermittent, these are the only things suggested, opposed to actual part failure.
