Default 1996 Fuel Sending unit...bad substitution by Shop?

Can anyone confirm for me what the correct resistance range should be on a 1996 SE'* fuel Sending unit. I belive that I read here it is 0-90 ohms. I think a shop is trying to install a unit for another model that has the 0-240 ohm range and is causing the tank to read empty when it'* not. Shop has tried to re-built senders with the same results. I'm thinking they are getting the wrong unit. They say that the senders work out side of the tank? They can get a reading on the tank by manually moviing the float arm while hooked up to the car (but not in the tank) But once they put it into the tank...it reads empty when it probaly has 1/4 of a tank of gas.

The car is 150 miles away with my 85 year old father-in-law, My brother-in-law took it to a shop and it'* been a struggle to get it fixed. Any is help greatly appreciated I have to call them tomorrow and try explain and I want to have my facts as right as possible... Would the 0-240 cause this kind of problem Is the high range (90 ohms) the empty and the 0 ohms the full? If so it maybe the problem.

Default Update/Fix 96 Fuel Sending Unit

The Mechanic working on Grampa'* Bonnie tried a 3rd rebuil...t same problems...and went and got a used one from a Salvage yard and it'* working fine. Not sure what brand the rebuilt units were but it sounds like somebody has a problem with their quality control
