It'* the 3/2 that you mentioned.
The protocol is really neither one. It'* a crossbreed of the two. It uses OBD2 connection, but uses ALDL coding. Bottom line is there is no way to do the paperclip trick like you could in earlier years, and OBD2 code readers don't understand the data.

1) When the car stalls out, around the time of the dings do all of the gages still function?
If you are rolling along and the engine stalls, the speedo should still show speed as well as Voltage and engine temp... These should not drop out..
2) when was the last time you removed and cleaned the Positive battery cable?
The Positive cable on these cars seems to do a lot of acidic corroding..
3) When the Car stalls it will alway start up, Correct?
If you get to a point where the car won't start then you'd want to check for spark, if there is no spark at that point you may then want to look at the ICM or Crank sensor or related wiring..
4) When the car does stall does it Stumble or stutter first, or does the car simply stop? I will bet the car stalls and then she gets the chime from the car ( Ding - Ding - Ding )..
5) Have you checked the fuel pressure?
Go ahead and check those grounds as well, Make certain the positive battery cable is clean and free of corrosion..
We will help you however we can

2) when was the last time you removed and cleaned the Positive battery cable?
-i will take a wire brush to it tomorrow just to be sure
3) When the Car stalls it will alway start up, Correct?
-correct. there are no "hot start" symptoms. it cranks right over
4) When the car does stall does it Stumble or stutter first, or does the car simply stop? I will bet the car stalls and then she gets the chime from the car ( Ding - Ding - Ding )..
-i will have to ask her which came first tomorrow, the chicken or the egg. in this case the feeling of anger from her car randomly dying or the ding ding ding
5) Have you checked the fuel pressure?
-no. do these cars have a shrader valve to get a gauge on?

When you say the cables are clean. Did you remove the boots. The reason for harping on it is the experience we have seen with corrosion under the boots causing these issues.

I've seen a crank sensor "hiccup" a car to the point of resetting the run time counter..Could be pcm...
Any luck on the ground buss?
