Default new here and need some help

OK yall, I know that there isnt much you guys can help me with since I dont have pics to better explain what Im talkin about. But theres always a chance. I own a 92 Bonneville SE and about a year and a half ago, I was in a major accident. Like an idiot I decided to fix the stupid thing one more time and the process has been slow and painful at times but I love this car to death. Right now Ive got just about all the mechanical stuff worked out except for replaicing the oil pump ( Im gonna go ahead and replace the water pump too while Im at it) and checkin out the vac lines and stuff. What Im concerned about is that one of the vac lines is cut. There is about a foot missing from it and the line is going from the back of the car (gas tank?) to the front where it crosses in front of the engine and goes to some little box. The part comming from the back of the car spurts out gas occasionally while driving and while in neutral or park. When the gas spurts out TONS of smoke pours out of the exhaust but when I have the line clamped off, the car is fine. Depending on money Im gonna take the car to a mechanic this weekend and get some professional help but I was wondering if yall might be able to tell me what to expect or what I might be getting myself into.


Im not much of a mechanic myself but I have some friends that are helping me along with the mechanical part and Im doin the body and paintin part myself. Like I said I understand there isnt much yall can help with unless I have pictures of what Im talkin about but my camera is busted at the moment and Im focusing my money on the car.

Reconnect the lines. That'* the evap purge, and is designed to return fuel vapors back to the fuel tank.

Sounds like the fuel vapor hose from the tank to the vapor canister is cut. If the line is rubber, I would think you could buy a piece of gas-line hose and get a couple of nylon coupler barbs to splice the two ends together. At times, the vapor canister is under vacuum from the engine and if open to the atmosphere, the engine will not run well.

If the line that is broken is nylon, it is only supposed to be replaced with the same type of line and fittings. These are usually only available from the dealer, but I believe they are not terribly expensive.
