93 bonne security system/starting problems
I have a '93 SSE, once in a while it acts up and it will not start. It took me a while to realize that whenever it did not start the security light in the dash was solid. So instead of jumping in and starting the car I have to wait until the security light to go out before I can start it. What is the deal with that?

this is the VATS system. The security light is a 2 minute wait I believe. Try cleaning the chip on your key with rubbing alcohol. The way it works is this, that chip in your key is really a resistor and if the computer doesn't see the resistance it expects when the lock cylinder is turned it believes someone is trying to steal it.
Disables the ignition for 2 minutes to foul the theft.
You can bypass the system by measuring the resistance in your key and putting a resistor in line like many remote start kits would have you do.

I knew about the chip, so I used my spare key and the same thing happens. It only happens once in a while. I noticed every time I wait for the light to go out it works fine. I had to replace my turn signal lever and I had the colum apart. I was wondering I might have screwed something up.

Look all you need to do Is get under your dash. Find an orange wire, but it really isn't an orange wire, when you cut it it'* actually two little white wires. Grab a muti meter and set it to ohms and get the resistance from the key. Place the resistor between the two white wires running to the ECM, not the ignition. Any problems getting the resistance let me know.

Most people will attempt to clean it with alcohol first and that usually works. The reason it doesn't work is because it is dirty.
You can circumvent it with a resistor as mentioned.

he said he tryed that and it still happens. So I gave him another option. It sounds like the problem is on the Igntion Cylinder side he can bypass it.

another methodwould be go to ecm find the grey wire that goes to passlock module( i can get you the ecm pin # if needed), cut it and strip it back as you turn the key over tap the wire to ground reallly fast( like a nearvous twitch) once the car starts you are good to go you will NOT need to do this again until you disconnect your batt. I done this and car has never failed to start in 2 years. I had to figure something out because when I got ecm and engine for swap i did not get the passlock module nor a key. hope this helps

possible fix
Had a 1992 eldorado did the same thing turned out to be the wire had an intermittent break in the bottom of the sterring columb.
I found this after i soldered two leads to a spare key and went directly into the module, this solved the problem but ofcourse renedered the system useless.
