I did some readin' around and decided I liked the NGK TR55'*, so I went an' bought some from O'reilly'* (idiot gave me five at first and I left without realizing..had to come back). I went to my shop and put in the new silverstar lows and fogs i'd bought..they look great, of course. Then changed the fuel filter which was a breeze, and went to change the spark plugs..then realized..

The effin motor is sideways! How the heck do I get to the spark plugs? @.@

Let me be the first to help you solve the problem of changing plugs.

Since the motor sits sideways, merely turn the motor around one side at a time
as you install the plugs. If you do not want to rotate the motor, just
remove the hood and windshield. That way, you can sit in the car, reach
through the windshield, and be comfortable while removing the plugs in the
rear of the motor.

Don't forget to put ALL 8 plugs in. Otherwise you'll have a miss.

All humor aside, the back plugs can be difficult if you have large forearms.

The simple solution to this is to remove the 4 nuts holding the strut bar in place. This will give you plenty of access. Don't move the vehicle until the strut bar is reinstalled.

if youre built like the average 13 yr old girl like me, then they arent a problem whatsoever. But if youre actually built like a man (mommy says someday i will be), then they can be a pain.

i was unable to get my entire removal assembly (ratchet, extension, plug socket) in there in one piece, i had to go one component at a time.

as for the wire removal, do go slow, and try not to use every last ounce of physical force in removing them, it will hurt when they let go.

its also hard to see back there, and a lot of it will be done by feel, so make sure the engine is nice and cold, unless you enjoy minor burns.

if you have a younger person, like a son, daughter, niece, nephew that kinda thing, it might be some good training to have them "help" you with it...otherwise known as making use of thier smallness.

Last night I did the plugs on Dads 96 Grand AM 3.1. The back plugs are not visible, it all happens by braille, a little contortionist and a little luck.

I'll take an easy to get at and visible bonneville any day of the week. There'* actually a ton of room once the strut bar is moved.

Hop up on top of the motor...its the only way to work on it.
