Default Crap...what is making this sound...

This morning my brakes felt spongey. When I got home I checked the MC, it is full and it wasn't leaking anywhere. I kept driving and I hit a pothole (not badly) and then the car started making this scraping sound consistent with the speed of the car. In reverse it is way louder and much more noticeable.

Here is a video. (10mb - wait for the second reverse)

EDIT: It'* loud in both forward and reverse gears...coming from rear passenger side tire. Parking brake can barely engages as well.

Check the dust/heat shields on the back of the rotors. You probably bent one and it'* dragging on the rotor. Either that or the ...... Holy ****. Just listed to the vid.

That'* sounding more like axle or differential damage.

Ewwww.....that can't be good. Might need to jack up the car and spin each wheel to see if it can help isolate the noise on one wheel or another. Could also do the 6 and12 O'clock/9 and 3 O'clock wheel test to see if there is any play from a wheel bearing or ball joint.

Well, I tested the side the sound was coming from, and sure enough something ain't right.

http://members.shaw.ca/bonneville01/MVI_0015.avi

It barely turns on its own, I give it a push and it stops a second later. Not to mention that sound. Possible something inside the drum is f'd up? The brakes feel strange and the parking brake can't even hold the car still when it'* idle. And it mashes all the way to the floor. I am REALLY hoping this isn't going to cost too much.

Story of my life. Payday today, and I got paid back some money someone owed me. Then this happened an hour later.

Parking brake is engaged and dragging in the drum? Trace the parking brake cable...maybe a bracket on the parking brake line got bent when you found the pothole and is causing tension on the cable and engaging the parking brakes.

It'* not serious, you've broken a return spring. take the drum off and replace the shoes and the metal hardware that has turned blue from heat.

shouldn't be all that much.
