Default Cruise control stopped working

Hey guys
i tried searching for cruise control stuff, but i got EVERY THREAD EVER due to willwren'* "Cruise control? That'* like surrendering!" signature.

anyway...

the other day, i plugged my ELC back in for the first time since i owned the car. apparently, there'* a leak somewhere, but i have yet to encounter battery drain. It seems to me, that ever since then, my cruise control has ceased to function. It doesn't even engage and let go, it just seems to do nothing, however i can't be sure, as it won't engage without being in gear...

I searched best i could, and couldn't find a fuse / relay for it
Is there a fuse for the cruise? I thought maybe it was the ELC fuse and cruise, but the ELC works fine, or at least the inflator function does.

Has anybody else had this problem, or something similar? ANY and all feedback is greatly appreciated...

Try a search by topic title only. You'll avoid my sig that way.

That darn Willwren...he'* a good guy though.

Check the vacuum hoses etc going to the cruise control. It is mounted right on top of the transmission and something may have gotten disturbed when you were connecting the compressor.

YES, bill #2 is right.

I have a pic here somewhere, been thru that, its the thin vaccume hose that goes near where the big brake hose is.

on my other car the actuator actually crapped out, but they are really easy to change, if you think it is a switch I also got a spare here if needed

edit.....look: (l27 but vaccum hose should be similar location)

Hans - thanks for the offer, if it turns out to be that i'll PM you

is there a way to use a 12v test light on the connector for the cruise to find out if it'* actually getting power? or is it the vacuum line more often than not?

Typically on our older cars we are prone to the vacuum lines drying and cracking causing more vacuum related issues with the cruise control than electrical.

update:

have not made it out to inspect the vacuum lines yet, as it'* been around 5-13 degrees Farenheit up here in duluth...

i was driving the car around today, and i tried the cruise, which surprised me by actually functioning. however, it was kinda jumpy, and once when i turned it off via the switch, it actually surged for a half a second or so then let off. anyone encountered this before?

Try lifting up on the brake pedal with your foot as the engage the cruise. It might help.

Too IIRC the 93 cruise control had two switches on the brake pedal for release. The dealer replaced my cruise which had quit and then it didn't work with the new unit. Turned out to be the second switch that'* operated by the brake pedal.

Is that brake switch inside the cab or under the hood?

The switches are contacting the brake pedal rod. The service manual at the time showed two circuits but I didn't catch on that there were two things that turned off the cruise control. The mechanic at the dealer didn't catch that there were two switches either IIRC. The one switch just quit in the middle of a trip. After repair it made contact but then quit again. Sort of random...
