The title says it all really. I got off work, drove to a gas station to grab something for the boss, drove back (2 blocks each way. Both times it was off then started) Ran inside, dropped off what I had bought. Went back to my car and turned the key. My radio, lights, fuel pump all that fired up. When I turned the key, nothing at all happens. I have one of those keys with the chip in it, but I don't have my other key here to test. Id really like to go home tonight. Any ideas?
I'm going out to check the battery connections and the starter. Hopefully I will find something obvious. Whatever happened, it happened during that last 2 block stint.

Clean the battery cables, both ends.

I did. It was all recently rebuilt and replaced. I've been scouring posts here for the last 20 mins or so, and it seems to me either my key chip is screwed, or worse yet, my ignition module or whatever you call where the key goes is. I cleaned the chip up as best I could with no luck. I have no idea how to clean the inside out to see if that'* why. I find it bizarre that I started it 3 times in 5 minutes (2 successfully) and the last time nothing. Do they really fail that quickly.
My security light blinks while having the key in a start position. My spare key is roughly 38kms away! The kicker is, I work next to an awesome key place that I know all the workers at, but they closed 15 mins before this all happened!!!! ARGH!

Do the lights dim when you turn the key?

I guess slightly, I've got a brand new alternator and battery. So that small draw doesn't affect it much.

I'm really thinking its either the key or the ignition itself. Everything I can see is all good. No corrosion, tight leads. My key looks a little worn down. I assumed maybe it wasnt connecting right, but even wiggling it around didn't help. Iv tried it in P and N and neither help. The security light does flash (I tried it again just a minute ago) and will stay flashing till I take it away from start position. This has never happened before now. It'* always started well.

All'* I know for sure at the moment is that I will never ever ever own another Pontiac again in my life if I can avoid it. I don't even want to ride in one anymore. In 6 months since iv owned the car I have had to replace:
Motor, plenum, all the gaskets, the alternator, power steering pump is going, needs new struts in back, heater fan, wonky park neutral switch I had to adjust (no I don't think that'* the issue), but it did cause me to spend numerous hours searching the motor, spark, and fuel systems for why my car runs like $#!T. So that'* new plugs 2 or 3 times, and a set of new wires, coils etc.
On the bright side its only stranded me 4 times since January. (Sarcasm)
I think I'm going to do the VAT bypass, and hope to god someone steals the damn thing. Once I turn all my recent repair receipts into insurance, I may actually see something good come out of this car. Perhaps enough money to buy a Chevy? lol
Given my short experience with this car, how do you bonne lovers find time to drive your cars unless you already put in a good year or so systematically replacing every part with new stuff as it falls apart underneath you.

P.* Don't take that personally, I just needed to get that off my chest. lol

Since I have frick all to do while I wait for a ride..... I peeped Dan'* profile. Dan, that is seriously the sickest looking Bonneville i have ever seen.

there are two small wires that run from your ignition switch key switch down the colum. when those wires break car wont start and security light will flash. car thinks some one is tring to steal it . have your key scanned so you can find out what chip your key is . 1-25 then look online to see what resistance that is equal to. then buy the right resister and jumper under colum the two orange wires from key switch then car should start. are both sides of the chips on your key now. if they are sounds like the wires in the colum broke most of the time right next to the switch.

The are both there and protruding, but only slightly. I just checked it against my less used keys, and that set sticks out significantly more. I'm going to try that, and maybe my other set of keys will fire up the stupid thing. If not I'm going to have to try and pop a resister in there, and see if that works.
I haven't looked into doing this yet, as I am hoping the other key will work. If the wire is broken off at the ignition, how do you know? I'm hoping you don't have to get that into the column to access these wires.
