My sisters fiance has a Caravan (like a '92 ish) and I guess something in the engine broke so now he'* looking for a new car. He found a '94 Olds 88 LSS at a local dealer. Its a clean car, 87k miles, 1 owner, leather, all the toys... Anyways, he brought it over to have my dad and I look at it and it seems like a flawless car, however the only problem we really saw was that it has a miss between 3-4k rpms. Below and above those rpms it runs smooth and pulls hard. It just seems like its coils or plugs to me. Just making sure thats what others think.

Any possibility of early signs of a cam/crank sensor going out?

Not that I noticed. It had no codes. I guess its a possibility, but it didn't seem like thats what it was.

Hmm.....When was the fuel filter replaced? Sometimes a bad fuel filter can cause a miss. Had it happen in a work truck once

my 94 eighty eight has run perfect, and I really do mean perfect for the price range it was in (1/2 cost of comparable bonnie SE models). The only thing in the engine bay I have replaced is the oil filter, air filter, and plugs. This car had NOT RUN for 4 years or so, charged the battery and off it went.

I get a minor hesitation at 1000-1400 rpmish, only problem I can tell. My grandma has a 94 88 lss (*dont laugh lol) purchased new, she has never had a repair of any kind in 70K or so, never needed any on-warranty work either and she drives quite aggressive for someone over 50 (no offense, lol) No parts ever needed other than oil changes and when she lost her key. The car was also stolen for 6 months, then recovered with no mechanical damage what so ever.

Sounds like coil/icm/ignition or possible sensor/emisions problem though. Should not be too bad to figure out.

The L27s are quite solid engines. and really easy to work on compared to most, at least on the top side.

Sounds like a weak coil/icm. Try swapping in a known good, I'm sure you could hear the difference.

flat spot on the throttle position sensor perhaps?

Thats what I'm thinking. I am going to throw on some extra coils we have lying around to see if it fixes the problem.
