Default '98 Bonneville SE

Hey Everyone,

I have a couple of questions. I have had my '98 Bonneville SE since 1998. It'* black with 16" chrome wheels, spoiler, moon roof, leather seats, CD Player. It started as a leased vehicle, and I am in the process of buying out the lease. I do have a couple of concerns, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out.

1. Left Turns - When I don't come to a complete stop and turn left, it will sometimes bog down. The engine doesn't hesitate what-so-ever, it just gets slow all of a sudden. The only way to pick up speed again is to turn the wheel back straight. Any ideas??

2. Maybe it'* just me, but it seems like the engine is less powerful than it should be. It will reach 20 miles and hour and 4000 RPMs before it will shift to 2nd gear...I've had no problems with the engine or tranny....just wondering if this is normal.

3. What octane fuel is best to use in the L36 engines? My friend has a '98 GP GTP and he always uses 93 octane. I have been putting in 93 octane for the last month, but always had 87 octane before. It seems lately to be running a little worse. Anyone know??

4. CD Player....I very often burn CDs. Lately, they've been skipping on me. Are you suppose to clean the CD players? The manual says not...but I doubt that.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
nt

Welcome to the group first off! I'll try to answer as many questions as I can:
1) It could be torque steer or rolling resistance. The drive axle'* c.v. joint might be at too extreme of an angle to transfer the torque to the wheel efficiently.
2) That sounds more like a trans problem than an engine problem to me...It may be normal depending on what final drive ratio that 4T65-E trans came with. The SE'* & NA SSE'* could get 2 different final drive ratios, while the SSEi'* & SC SSE'* came with the 4T65-E HD trans and only one final drive ratio was available.
3) I would recommend what ever the owner'* manual suggests. The SC Bonnevilles usually use high octane fuel while the NA Bonnevilles use regular octane fuel.
4) There is no actual way to clean a CD Player without taking it apart. This goes for your home Computer one'* too. There only way the laser eye ever gets dirty is if you actually touch it. I would try a store bought CD & see if the problem is still there. If so, see the dealer while it'* still under warranty.
