I haven't posted in a long time, but last week, I was driving down the intersate, and my '96 N/A would loose power for a moment (like half a second or so,) then come back. It was almost like someone taking their foot off the gas for a moment and then back on. It was not a jerking motion, but rather smooth. No Check Engine light. It was a warm day, so I wondered about vapor lock. Since then it'* run fine, but I've only been running around town.
Any ideas?

If this happened only once, chaulk it up as a technical difficulty. If its happening all the time, we need more info..like if you are on it, hills, curves...

I was noticing it when I was going up hills. On flat ground I couldn't notice it as much.

Consider adding some dry gas to your next full tank incase you had some condensate or bad gas.

Then think about the last time you changed the fuel filter, and air filter. If they are due...this could sound like the beginning of a plugged fuel filter.

did you have cruise control on? Did it feel like it does when you have cruise control on and hit the coast button function? Maybe vacuum leak?

When my crank sensor first started going out it did that. After that it would die altogether. (no codes) I first chalked it up to cruise control letting go because that'* the only time I would notice it.

I only got a crank code 2 times, and besides the light coming on, never felt anything unusual. All the times it would die or do that 1/2 sec cutout, no codes.

It was doing it with and without the cruise. It was very gentle, like someone easing off the gas and then getting back on.
I change my air filter on a regular basis, but I haven't changed the fuel filter in about 3 years. I'll do some checking for vacuum leaks. That sounds like a good possibility, so does bad gas.

my sister got bad gas the other day, and it set an engine light off in here VW Beetle. It ran rough, and stumbled some, but once we ran a little high test through it, The light went off and it rans smooth again. I would try running some mid or high test though it, and see if it helps.

Quit farting around and change the fuel filter. Right underneath the right rear door, costs $10, and takes 10 minutes.

When you do, your problem will be solved.

P.*. 5/8" and 13/16" open end wrenches. That'* all it takes.
