1999 SSEI Rear struts replacement
Hi Everyone,
I have a 1999 SSEI that I purchased new 10 years ago, it is my second Bonneville, it has 86k miles. Got many offers from friends to sell but will never do, I love my Bonneville. The short story is in 2002 I had all four struts replaced under extended warranty by GM dealer. At that time GM stopped making CCR suspension. So, they replaced with the GM recommended replacement which also disabled the buttons for the different rides. My mechanic said that the rear struts are still air suspension.
I need to replace the rear struts. It'* about $1000 for the dealer to replace, which I can not afford. My mechanic said I can only put GM struts. Is that true?
What other brands/models/part numbers for the rear struts can I buy to replace the old struts.
Thanks very much, I appreciate any insight from the Bonneville forum gurus !

Hi Bill;
Please add your year and trim of your vehicle to your signature line. That way when you start asking questions in other areas of the forum, we all have a better idea on how to assist you. Click on "Quick Links" above, go down to "User Control Panel" and then click on "Edit your Signature" It'* pretty straight forward from there.
RockAuto RockAuto Parts Catalog list'* two different rear shocks for under $100 ea depending on which one you get. They are easily installed by yourself.
SACHS Part # 030679 {Super Touring}
Rear; All w/ Standard Rear Suspension
SACHS Part # 030687 {Super Touring}

Your mechanic is misinforming you! Some mechanics would have customers believe that OEM is the only option. Its more money in there wallet. Sell you the OEM part marked way up and give you the huge bill.
As Purple stated above you have less expensive options and IMO better quality.
Todd.

Thanks Purple and Todd for the great info, I really appreciate your help. One more observation. I have the air pump to inflate the tires. It does not pump enough air for the tires, could it be a pump issue?
Thanks for your help.

Or on the bad end if your ride control compressor needs replacing, your are looking at $600+.
