1993 Bonnie SSEi code 56, no drive.
Hey guys,
I'm back with my troublesome 93 bonneville "deerkiller".
I purchased this car mid engine swap, previous owned told me the the engine in the car had blown and this one came from a 92 ssei that he hit a deer with. One mount wasn't fully on, driveaxles weren't in, but otherwise everything was there.
Parts i changed:
Ignition control module
Crankshaft position sensor
Driveaxles (from a 92 bonnie na$
Overall tuneup
So here are the problems after my first start with it on its own four legs. Im quite new at most of this and would greatly appreciate any feedback!
When i start the engine i can hear some grinding while the starter is engaged.
The engine idles rough, and smoke comes out from the engine, i think from the exhaust manifold but im not too sure..
When i put the car in drive, it drops rpms, but theres no power to the wheels, absolutely nothing.( i did a tranny/filter change)
Engine light was on so i did the whole A-B bridging on the aldl cable, as soon as i did fans come on, and its throwing a code 56. Thats the only code that keeps flashing, and code 12.
I found code 56 on the forums to be the Quad Driver Module, which controls Boost Solenoid, Shift solenoid A and B, TCC Apply Solenoid, EGR 1 & 2 solenoids.
Is a failure in any of these a likely reason for why theres no power to the wheels? Do i need to reprogram the pcm because of the 93-92 swap? Or do i likely have a broken tranny?
I may be a bit over my head, but i'd love to try anyways.

the qdm in the pcm supplies power to those sensors you mentioned. so could be short in that circuit, short in one of those sensors, could be a problem with the pcm. i dont know anything about the differences in 92-93

rough running could be anything vacuum leak plugs wires bad fuel injector. starter noise could be the fly wheel rubbing . the trans when the engine was changed if the torque converter was not locked into the pump right and put together when the engine was turned over it would have knocked the pump out . are the drive axles all the way in the trans if one is not then no wheel movement . could be the diff inside the trans hard to say which one.

Thank you for your responses.
I will double ckeck the driveaxles!
Also this transmission came from the 92 car with the engine so im hoping nothing happened to the torque converter..
Ill also try to test those wires for those sensors.
Any idea why the fan comes on when i do a diagnostic? Or is that normal?

Yea it definitely freaked me out first time, wasnt sure what was going on.
Went to the gm dealer and talked to a mechanic, he was pretty quick to blame the pcm. Id still like to test everything before i replace that.
Do pcms from rockauto come as a blank slate?
I also got an aldl hookup to computer that works with some programs such as tuner pro rt, has anyone used one of these? Can they do anything useful?

dont know about tuning but your cars info is a replaceable chip in the pcm, so if there was a problem with the pcm and you put your prom on there it would work but if the issue is something on the prom and you have to transfer the prom then obviously that wouldnt work. sometimes you can find a car with your exact options in the yard and that would work as well
