Default Loud whirring

I am not having a severe problem with my car. When I put the car in gear, is makes a loud whirring noise, almost like the sound of a power steering pump going out, but it is coming from the back end of the engine(drivers side). I originally thought my EGR valve might have gone south, but the noise is only when I am in gear and it is loud enough for other drivers to hear. In neutral and park, it makes no noise. I'm stumped.

That was a thought of mine too, but the fluid seems to be ok. it is not dark and does not smell burnt. The fluid filter is only about 5,000 miles old.

it does now have a very slow 1-2 shift if you are on it hard and it started having this problem all of a sudden. There was none or very little build up to it.

Take a listen to mine. You will hear it start whining around 30 seconds in.
