Just joined today! I have an engine from a 2003 Grand Prix and am looking to put it in my 96 Bonneville SE which has a 3800 Series II in it. What major headaches am I in for?

Engine mounts, exhaust manifold (rear) and possibly the accessory bracket will have to go on the GP motor FROM your old one.

Other than that, it should be fairly straightforward.

I'm up to my elbows in my first engine swap and could use a few pointers!

I'm kinda-sorta following the "Remove engine with transaxle 95 Bonneville SLE" in the tech section. My difference is that I don't want to remove the tranny, just the engine.
I'm removing a 3800 Series II from a 96 Bonneville SE and have a 3800 from an 03 Grand Prix. The salvage yard assures me that it will work... I've already seen a few
things that will have to follow over from the old engine...

I've hit a snag on removing the AC compressor from the Bonneville engine... I'm not quite sure which bolts MUST be removed to free it... Anyone?

Also, Motor mounts... The main one in front of the engine... remove the two bolts from the frame member or pull the long bolt out? Where are the other mounts and which bolts HAVE to come out?

I'm assuming the transaxle needs support before lifting out the engine... WHERE should it be supported?

Unbolt the motor mounts first, or the engine from the transmission?

How far does the motor have to move away from the tranny before lifting it out?

Any other Gotcha'*! I should be looking out for?

Yeah, you can probably tell I'm not an auto mechanic and I'll freely admit it! I do know one end of a wrench from the other... I've spent 25 years in a local factory turning wrenches on machines that make paper cups... I just need a bit of direction to get my Bonneville back on the road! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry about splitting up the thread... Just trying to get some help here...

3 nuts off the front, 1 bolt out of the back, a gentle tap towards the front of the engine and the A/C compressor is free! NO freon lost.

Ok, I THINK I have everything disconnected from the engine except the two heater hoses, the front mount and the six (?) bolts holding the engine to the tranny. I have all the wiring disconnected, vacuum lines, fuel lines, fans removed, PS Pump and AC compressor disconnected, air box, throttle linkages... what am I forgetting?
