I'm hoping someone here can help me get the correct parts for Wifey'* '95 SE- need to replace the steering rack, pump and line-set. Can the necessary info be gleaned from this list? Thanks for any help you can give me.

you have the FE1 rack.....and you also have the T2V which is the 2 flow electronic steering....

the rack is fairly easy to find, since its the most common

the pump on the other hand needs to have a electrical connector on the back to ensure that the T2V is still functional.....alot of the pumps dont have the connector

Thanks for the reply- that'* what I needed. And you're right, it is the electronic unit- I replaced it about a year ago, but I shoulda done the rack too- I'm gussing that'* what took the first pump out initially. Really starting to make noise and Momma ain't happy- well you know the rest.

You're lucky. You have the inexpensive rack. If your symptoms point to it, replace it, but leave the pump for now.

Don't underestimate the power of your belt tensioner to cause PS problems though. That one nearly bit me in the arse.

Good idea, but the pump is making noise and you can see the spray pattern of PS fluid coming from the (I presume) front seal of the pump. Other than the noise and leakage, she'* having no steering issues. That being said, should I still suspect the rack? Not trying make more work for myself, I just don't want to have to do this again.

I wouldn't lay too much suspicion on the rack unless you're having issues you can feel or hear.

You were right, fella- 'twas only the tensioner pulley. $23 and she'* down the road! Ain't nothing like a happy woman! I can't believe I never saw the melted plastic off the pulley. You guys rock!
Now if I could only reconcile the new half-shaft I need on my Saturn...
