Few questions for you. 93 Bonneville.
I am having a few problems with my car. I am going to be pulling the codes tonight to see what the problem is with the SES light. However I am curious to what would cause a transmission to not go into gear when initially starting it up. I have had the fluid clushed and changed twice in the past 30,000 miles. The first time was because it was over due and the second time what because I needed to change the tranny pan gasket. The car has a total of 155,000 miles on it.
Also when the car is started up it will have irratic idle for the first 2-3 minutes and then it will go away. I have a feeling that it is the throttle body needing to be cleaned, and it seems like an easy first step. The only problem is does anyone have a step by step guide to pulling the throttle body off? I have done a search and couldn't come up with anything that was useful, other than realizing it really should be cleaned every 60,000 miles. Also what gaskets are needed for this project? I am pretty familiar with cars, since my other one is my toy but I am used to the older cars with not so much crap in the engine bay. Thanks.

yea check the codes and report them back so we can diagnose the problem
the TB dosent come off easily in a L27 car, I would say that there is a 45min-to 1 hr for someone doing it the first time, yes there is a TB gasket, and they sometimes fail and drip coolant

How to clean a 93 L27 Throttle Body:
1 ) Remove the filter assembly. Two clamps take the convoluted tube off.
2 ) Remove the two 8mm bolts on the top of the TB.
3 ) Remove the Exhaust heat sheild, Two 13mm nuts.
4 ) Unclip the Accel and Cruise cables and unbolt the Throttle Cable Bracket.
5 ) Unplug the three connectors on the TB.
6 ) Remove the three 13mm nuts holding the TB to the UIM, it'* a good idea to hold the other side of the bolt with a combo wrench. Don't drop the TB.
7 ) Use a Phillips, Standard, or T15 to remove the three sensors on the TB.
8 ) Use Sensor Safe TB Cleaner to clean the TB. Clean the End of the IAC shaft.
9 ) Reinstall is reverse of removal, use a new TB Gasket.

I used to have a 93 up until 2 months ago. I cleaned the throttle body in it and did NOT remove the heat shield. It CAN be done without removing the heat shield. It just takes some patience. I suggest trying to remove the TB without removing the heat shield and if you discover it can't be done, then remove the heat shield. That heat shield can be a toughy.

Alright so I have a wonderful code 44. It says that it is the O2 sensor lean. That means that I am not getting enough fuel into the motor and the oxygen sensor is reading lean. Am I right so far. This then means that I might have quite a few other problem, or just one the O2 sensor. Worst case senerio is that I have to see if there is an issue with the fuel pump not getting enough gas to the motor, or the fuel pressure regulator is an issue and I read that on this board a while ago, or one of the injectors is possibly clogged. If anyone has knowledge of this could you please let me know. I am hoping that it is just the O2 sensor. Now are there 2 in this car or just one? I have a Maxima that has 2 but it also has the ODBII computer and this one only has the ODBI. So I am thinking that it is just one and it is pretty near the motor maybe in the manifold on bank 2? Thanks a ton for any help you might be able to provide. I also have the gasket set coming in tomorrow so maybe on Sunday I will sit around and watch football while cleaning the TB.
