I've searched for a previous thread on this topic; can anyone help me out?

My check gage indicator goes on and the bell rings when my fuel gauge reads 1/2 tank. I know I shouldn't let the fuel go below 1/2 tank - that'* not the point. Does anyone else get the warning at 1/2 tank?

The gauge seems to be correct. My SSE didn't give the warning until the gauge was in the low fuel area. Does the warning differ between cars?

I'm also getting the bell when I start the car up and put my foot on the brake to shift out of park. There aren't any warnings in the driver info center. Signal and brake lights are working; may be the license plate bulb (*). It might actually be warm enough outside to work on this today!

The Check Gauges should only come on in the yellow area. :? Could be the gauge, but you say it looks correct.

I'm sure you have an idea of the fuel comsumption so, watch the odometer, GM fuel gages are so wonky. I'm lucky the DIC works well on my car.

That was my original thought, but I fueled-up with the gauge in the yellow and it took LESS gas than I thought it would take... More confusion. Is the tank on an SE smaller than an SSE (same year)?

The gauge in the SSE went to E when I shut off the car. This one stays at 3/4 tank when the ignition is off.

Took a road trip this past weekend and I'm sure the gauge is working.

The tanks are all 18 gallon tanks. Maybe the sensor in the tank :?

I'll go fill er up and see how many gallons it takes. Sensor sounds - ugh - icky.

Any ideas on the bell/foot on the brake? Could be my entire DIC/bells are wonky.

Every time you press the brake you get that ding? Or just when you shift out of park?

The ding can't be your lights. SE'* don't have the lamp monitor.

Your gauge probably acts differently when you turn it on, because the SE doesn't have the 'sweep' function that the SSE/SSEi have. Where they do a 'function test' on startup.

Since you don't have any lights, you're probably going to have to pull codes to see what that ding is when you start (do you have your seatbelt on already?).....cuz I don't have a clue.

I'm also not sure where the signal comes from for the low fuel warning. My thought was that it originated in the cluster. You may need to clean the connectors and reseat them on the back/inside of that cluster, but before you do any of that, I'll move this down to 92-99 so the Gearheads will find it easier. Lets see what they have to say.

Only get the ding when I shift out of park. Yep, the seatbelt is fastened before I even start the car.

It took 16.4 gallons to fill up yesterday. The indicator was just starting to enter the yellow line area.

I've found that if driving smoothly on a level surface, the DIC will ding with approximately 3 gallons left in the tank (at least, when I fill it up right after, it takes 15 gallons), and the needle is on the right edge of the yellow zone. Of course, you can get the ding to come earlier if you make right-hand turns really fast...while braking.
