intro...and trans issue
Hi, All...
Been lurking here for a couple of weeks and finally decided to tap into your collective wisdom for a problem with my recently purchased 94 LeSabre. My 4t60e is experiencing a condition where it starts in second gear ad shifts to third, but no 1st or 4th regardless of gear lever position. TCC lock-up works fine in third. I was thinking solenoid issue, so I bought the Delco solenoids and took it to a trans shop. He tested it ad claims that it couldn't be the solenoids, as all three tested within specs for resistance at the connector. I checked all the likely fuse suspects and the fuses all tested fine, so I'm stumped. Basically, the PCM is commanding the shifts, but they are not happening. If there were other issues, I would suspect a valve body problem. But the 2-3 shift is fine, as is reverse. Line pressure is good, too. Any more clues on where to look? Bad ground to the solenoids, maybe? Thanks for any help!
Oh, by the way, I've been all over the Web since I bought this car, and you guys seem to have the best H-body info out there. Nice resource.

Solenoids are electo-mechanical devices. Even if they test good electrically as he claims, he did not verify mechanical response of the valve. The only way to verify that is to remove the valvebody and check them personally. It cannot be done from the connector other than electrically.
I suggest taking it to another shop for diagnosis. Your symptoms are pointing directly at a solenoid.
