Default '00 starting problem

For the past 4 weeks I have had a problem when starting the car. If I engage the ignition the car will turn over about 7-8 times before it starts wanting to start. I get the impression it'* not getting enough gas. If it does start, it is sluggish with RPM'* under 500. I have to give it gas for it to smooth out. Once it'* running, it'* fine. I have attempted starting while using the gas pedal and that seems to help it start faster. Had had no other problems until 2 days ago. Was on highway slowing down for a cloverleaf to another highway and just before I entered the turn, it killed and I actually didn't realize until going into the turn cuz of no power steering. I was able to throw into neutral and restart with no problem while coasting. I've had the car for almost a year and this is my first car newer than the 70'*. Also, my cousin has a '99 or '00 Olds Alero and was having the same problem with his. He took it in and they said it was the fuel pressure regulator and handed him a bill for $400 for part ($140) & labor ($260). I add the Olds factor cuz it'* the same car underneath (frame, engine, etc.) and I would assume all parts are the same minus body and interior. I love the new car but also miss the older ones but problems were much easier to diagnose AND fix.

I'd be real curious to see what kind of diagnostic codes your PCM is throwing. Have you had it checked? I can see the FPR doing this, but It could also be any number of other things. Your injectors require a very specific fuel pressure to operate correctly.

If you don't have access to a scan tool, find one, and check the codes before you shotgun anything. 95% of the time, the scan will tell you exactly what the problem is. Keep us posted on your progress so we can add this to the library!
