Default Air conditioning

Air conditioning diminishing. Dealer says needs retrofit at cost of $350 or more as system never required attention in 12 years and new colling agent is now necessary.

Advice and comment please.

Does it still blow kinda cold? What are the vent temps? You can go to wallmart and buy a cheap kit and do it yourself. If the vent temps are still kinda cold, you would be better off trying to find some R12.

I'd say if you can afford it, have the dealer convert to R-134a, and do the A/C service. Let'* face it, to get twelve years out of an automobile air conditioning system w/o servicing, it owes you nothing. Good luck with it.

Buy a cheap gage at walmart. It'* like a tire gage. Good is 30 -45# at the low side (near the aluminum can). might just need freon.

I'm sure in 1985 you can get freon at every corner drugstore, but in 2005 its a little hard to come by!
