Default Whats involved in gear swap

I'd like to get a better gear ratio. Stock is 2.84 and Lesabre T-Type came with 2.97. The Bonne SSE has 3.06 which is the ratio i want. What parts do i need to get. Gears and chain ? Thats aside from gaskets and is there a shift kit available . 1990 Olds 88.

The simplest way is just to swap the entire transmission and reprogram the computer. A junkyard transmission may be cheaper than a rebuild kit and whatever parts are needed. It'* up to you, though.

It'* a lot of work changing gears and chain. Drop sub frame, remove transmission, remove side pan, remove valve body assembly, remove gears and chain, then put it all back.

Was'nt planning on dropping but was going to change the sub frame mounts and 92-95 frt brakes. I have a new F 41 rack and 32mm sway bar. If i drop it it can all be done at the same time off the car. So what gears and chain do i need. Unless i drop it out and lift in a Caddy 4.1 or 4.5 or series 2 or 3.
But i dont want an SC motor or Caddy running hi-octane. My GS Regal is enough.

I still have my old Regal at home . Runs fantastic but lots and lots of rust. It'* a 92 (L27) and way quicker than my Olds. Finally found info that it . It has a 3.06 final drive. I still have only because i was waiting for better weather to pull the heads and do a home porting job on them.
Question is will the tranny fit the H body. I've others talk about it but need to know for sure.
The Vin came up as ME9 TRANSMISSION,AUTOMATIC 4-SPEED(THM440-T4/4T60) 4-SPD A/TRANS(ME9)
FW2 TRANSAXLE,FINAL DRIVE,3.06 RATIO(USED WITH GRAN TOURING PKG Y56) 3.06R(FW2

Also the upper intake won't swap due to the TB right ?

Took everyones advise and changed the trans. Did not reprogram the computer. Went right in w/o any problems. Did the entire front end except the eng cradle mounts since i coud'nt find new ones and mine were good and no rust. . Runs great now and freeway ramps are more exciting. The front end makes it feel like a new car again.

Good to hear it went smooth. however, how are your shift points? Not having it retuned is going to cause some conflicts.

In his year there won't be any real programming issues like our fully electronic setup. (97+)

And actually for a gear swap, the info provided was incorrect. A gear swap in an NA trans of that year is swapping the differential. However GM changed th pitch, tooth count etc etc a bunch of times in the 4T40/4T60 and therefore each year should be matched up and confirmed 10 different ways.

Shift points are were they should be. Shifts just like it did in the Regal being it'* not elec controlled. Everything run just as it should. Essentilly the eng in both crs are the same LN3/L27 and both had the same trans but different gearing.
