Default HELP... ok got my new coil, but have a few questions now

Ok I got the coils system with the mounting bracket from a 98 Buick LeSabre….

It has the mounting brackets from the car (9 of course which is different and wont work on my 91 Bonneville. What bracket do I really need to make this work; I looked on eBay but can’t find anything to do with the brackets at all.

I am hopping that I did ok by getting one from this car and the year and the cost was only 9.99 plus 10.00 shipping for everything. Any ideals where to look on line to get the part so I can mount the new coils?

Oh yeah after I removed the old Magnavox coil to look at the mounting differences I noticed that I have a goopy like sticky stuff seeping out between the coil and the mounting area (guess that’* a good sign they need to be changed also right?)

One last question also as I have found a coil setup for a 1996 Park Avenue Ultra Supercharged 3.8L would it be worth the 20.00 to grab this also for the extra hotter fire I have heard about, or could I even use this one also? I think that the Park is a 3800 and not a 3.8 in that year also right, but its what the guy told me when I called.

Thanks for the help and with any input on this matter

I'm not sure exactly what mounting bracket you need for your car, i'm pretty sure you just use the one you got and put it on your engine. But i never got the chance to do this before my car got stolen so i don't know. The coils and module u got should work fine. As far as the other two things, that goopy stuff that was under your original coils is supposed to be there, it'* an insulator. If you want the hotter coils, i think it'* the 97+ supercharged motors that got them, so i don't know if the 96 PA would have them. Someone else that has done the swap will chime in.

I wish that I could have just used the bracket that came with the coils, but the Buick has a totally different mount than our Bonneville’* do.

The Buick has no metal mount under it such as the Bonneville’* do, the Buick mounts directly onto the metal/pot metal part that mounts to the side of the motor. The mounting holes on the coil mount are closer than the Bonneville’* are and the fact there is only two I would also loose my alt. mount spot also.

I guess someone will let me know sometime which mounting plate I will need to get. Thanks for the help

It'* not the fact that it is a Buick, its just that the Series II mounts differently. You will need the mounting hardware from a 92-95 Bonneville/3800 powered car to do it right. And as alec said, the hotter coils are on the 97+ L67.

If I understand you correctly, then yes, the goopy stuff is supposed to be there. Its dielectic grease, and acts as an excellent corrosion inhibitor, and it transfers heat between the 2 metals quickly.

Some people will make the mistake of wiping this stuff off electrical connectors, or from that area, and that is NOT good as corrosion, can set in, or the heat won't be transferred quick enough, and can cause excessive overheating.

I am sure it does serve some reason for being there, but when it’* oozing out of the coils between the seals, I doubt that’* really good or is suppose to be doing this!

I went ahead and parked the Bonneville it needs far far far too much work for me right now with work any everything else so I just parked it in the garage and started driving my rice (Maxima) again for a bit until work and the holidays calm down a bit

Thanks everyone for all the help you guys have been great!

Default coil

the easiest swap is to unbolt a Delco coil assy from a 92-95. No bracket required.
It bolts right up to you bracket with the three lower mounting studs.
