Difficulty unlocking door
Hey guys,
I have an '89 Bonneville LE. I have had difficulty unlocking the driver side door since day one. I put the key in, go to turn it and it doesn't go all the way, it stops very quickly. I can barely turn it. I have to turn it back and forth repeatedly until the point where it will turn slightly back, and then turning towards the rear door will unlock it. This can take awhile sometimes.
My neighbor tried helping me, first he sprayed some Graphite spray in the key hole... I actually think that made things worse. The key is getting increasingly difficult to put in and take out of the keyhole, and it'* moving even less now. He then sprayed some silicone spray to help lubricate it, and still no results. What do I need to do in order to get this working again?

At this point I would say go to the dealer and get a new dor lock. They can use your key and key the new one to match the old ones. My driver side lock had seized also and no spray was ever gonna help it. It wasn't too bad price wise for a new lock. Check around and see what they charge.

Yeah, sounds like your lock cylinder went bad [that'* what its called for the ignition.. maybe the door too, I don't know]. It would be a really big pain in the *** to do it yourself. Can the door lock and unlock from the inside? If so, maybe you could go the cheap way, and buy a cheap aftermarket alarm, so you have the keyfob, and if by chance you need to unlock the door w/o the key fob, you can just go on the passenger'* site. and the wiring would be simple as pie, if all you want is keyless entry.

This happened to me a long time ago. I went to my local locksmith who installed a new cylinder for a fraction of the cost of the dealer. Also, he configured the lock so it would work with my original key.

Well let'* see, I bought the car from my neighbor, the dealer where it was purchased from back in the day "Parkville Pontiac in Woodbury" no longer exists... so I'd have to find somewhere else to take it. I've had a passion to get keyless entry for the longest time, but I could never decide on a unit, and money became an issue at one point. Now with my new job that won't be an issue, however I still need a hood that I can't find anywhere, and until then I can't even get under the hood. *Sighs*
I switched the key for the door and right now it'* fine, it'* a little rough to get in and out sometimes, but I can turn the key now. And yeah, I can lock and unlock from the inside no problem so again the keyless entry is sounding ever more appealing... actually, the sole reason I was looking for one was because of this problem, just it'* gotten worse lately.
