1990 Park Ave Trans Clunk
Recently, the trans started to clunk but only coming out of park to reverse. It won't clunk in drive, and the fluid is fine.
I've checked the fluid every weekend since I've bought the car (Oct), along with other fluid levels. The previous owner was an older gentleman that took the car in for any rattle, or noise that the car made. I am guessing that the trans fluid and filter probably need to be changed. The car only has 72k on it. I don't race the car, but I also don't drive it grandpa style either (it gets romped on once in a while, and going on the on-ramp to a busy highway in the morning.
There is no temp difference as far as if it is 40 degrees out, or 118 out. The trans will clunk 9 out of 10 times from park to reverse. Also doesn't matter if it'* on a flat surface or on a slight grade (we don't have that steep of hills in Phoenix).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine does that every now and then, maybe one out of a hundred times. I'm told it'* wear on the transmission'* reverse reaction drum.
A fluid and filter change is always good for what ails your transmission, but if your fluid seems good, save your money.

Evening all! WOW! it'* been forever since I've had a chance to sit down and actually log in here!.
Wanted to updated you on this trans clunk. I changed the trans fluid and filter. New pan gasket and checked for leaks. No leaks. Drove it to the store about 4 miles away, and no problems. In fact it doesn't clunk into reverse anymore, and it also shifts SOOOO smooth from gear to gear when driving. In fact, I don't even feel it shift into overdrive at 47 mph anymore.
It got driven twice to Las Vegas the end of June and after the 4th of July. No problems at all. It just passed 88,888.8 yesterday on the way home. Have some minor gremlins but I'll post that in another post. All is well here, just busy with work.

Of course, it'* been replaced with a little third gear shuddering, but I might just need a tune-up.
